15 percent tips make me feel like I did something wrong service wise (even if service was top notch from the jump)

5 dollars tips when I'm basically holding your hand the entire time throw me off.

but one table may tip 10 percent and the next may tip 40 %

just can't let cheap unnappreciative tabled get in your head. some people don't care or are never satisfied

I tip a dollar a beer. Food? Double the tax and add a dollar.

It all depends on the service. If the food is shite and the service is good, st least 20%. If the food is excellent and the service is shite, 10%. If the service is smoking hot, has great eyes, and doesn't make me wait for a drink, 50-100%.

Servers are trained the following standards:

10% - Poor service
15% - average service
18% - decent to good service
20% - great service

When I was waiting tables in college, if I gave you great service and you still only tipped me 15%, it was hard not to take it personally. Servers and bartenders work their asses off.

It's a complicated formula involving OT level, breast size, amount of cleavage shown, and angle of lean when serving food.

Depends on server.

If male, that's an auto -5% starting off. Right out the gate. Obvious Hygene plays a factor, if they are of help points can be earned.

If female, the line stays. If hot, add +5%. Etc.

I've worked places that if your credit card tips were below 15% on consecutive days you will get written up and reprimanded.

Sucks because sometimes people will leave cash and zero tip on the credit card. You just hope they write 'cash' on the tip line

I typically tip more than 20% unless service was poor. But I didn't know it had increased to 20%.

The standard was 15% maybe 20 years ago. I'd say that 20% is more standard now. But that's on the bill, not including tax. Lots of people tip on the entire bill, including tax, so they're tipping more than they think.

But I don't know how much to tip in LA. Last year we passed a new law to pay servers more money. Does that mean that I tip less now since they're making $15/hr? And now some restaurants have a no tipping policy and others have a mandatory tip already added. The mandatory tip doesn't necessarily go just to the server so do I have to tip the server extra? It's so confusing. Just get rid of tipping already.
