I miss the agitator. I think it cleans clothes better.
Agitator may clean better, and the cycle definitely takes longer with our HE washer. But we rarely have deep stains in our clothes, at least not to the point that it's been an issue yet. We may come across it eventually. And the longer cycle may bother the wife, but it's about as long as the dryer now, so it really isn't that noticeable when doing loads to me. I absolutely do not miss the agitator in regards to getting shite in and out of the washer though. Much less of a pain unloading afterwards, especially with large items like sheets and stuff.

Bought a GE HE top loader washer with agitator and "deep fill" function last spring.
During wash cycle it will unbalance a load nearly every time, jeans & tee shirts, sheets or towels, light weight clothes all get pushed to one side of the drum in a twisted up bunch. Light or heavy loads, using deep fill (which is max ~20% of drum volume) or not doesn't matter.
Spins like a jet turbine and then starts walking along the floor trying to commit suicide shaking itself to death. I've leveled it a few times as recommended and no cure.
Can't wait for it to die so we can get a Speed Queen.
The HE dryer is ok gets the job done.

I feel like washer/dryer technology has advanced far slower than the rest of the everyday things we use
New appliances and electronics are made to be thrown away. Manufacturers realized that people don't care about quality anymore, and they can make more money selling stuff that breaks often and can't be serviced

I bought a new "old school" style machine the other day and I'm much happier with it.
I need to get one today. Feel the same way. Our HE Maytag has been garbage.
What did you get?

Speaking of, ours stopped working this week. I had no idea these things have a coin trap/pump filter. If you ever leave coins in your pants, you probably need to clean this out. Mine had a shite-ton of coins in it.
