Happened a year ago, but I just came across it.

Back story:

Happened in San Diego. The woman was Chinese-American (not sure if a full citizen or a resident). She attended Yale and received her PhD. She worked in the public health field.

She lived in a condo and the condo wanted her evicted. (I'm not sure if it was her behavior or because she didn't pay). Condo had already gone through the court process and so the Cops were there to serve her the eviction papers. When she opens the door, she has a butcher knife in her hand. Cop at the door pulls his gun and starts yelling "drop the knife or I will shoot you." Things escalate from there.

Her ex-husband said she had been diagnosed bipolar and had been struggling with it. She had sought treatment both in the U.S. and China.

After her death, her colleagues at Yale wrote an open letter admonishing the Police for doing a poor job of de-escalating the situation.

The unbridled arrogance of northeastern academic types who actually think their opinion has any bearing on the matter is comical.

First I've heard of it as best I can remember.

Probably the last I'll think about it.

It’s easy to judge from your ivory tower. Being there in the moment is a different animal.

She was warned, and I guess she didn’t listen. The cop was supposed to get stabbed?

They did everything they could to deescalate short of leaving.

Yale grad can’t pay rent? Stupid bitch.
LE used less lethal weapon and she still came after them successfully stabbing one.
Good for them.

I'm a big fan of free speech, but IMO, her colleagues that signed that letter all should have been court mandated to do a ride along in a blue city with a neutered police force.

Hopefully a couple will get stabbed and reconsider their positions on police community relations.

I mean seriously a little Chinese women with a knife. I know I am an old mfer but every cop I grew up would have laughed at her and just told her to put down the knife unless you she was going to cook them dinner or something, and taken the time to de-escalate the situation and no one would have been injured, unless they got a minor cut.

But they were trained to use your weapon as last resort, and they didn’t want to kill anyone if they didn’t have too. They weren’t pussies they were the opposite, they were bad asses.
They were trained totally different to protect and serve.

Cops coming up now are trained to protect their lives first and foremost and their lives are most valuable asset, shot first and ask questions later. I think there is even a famous quote from a California precinct that does something like “your life is irreplaceable, if you make a mistake we will just pay another 6 million “ or something to that effect.

It’s not the cops it’s the damn training

kind of like you should be stabbed so you can reconsider how stupid and evil it is to say you hope someone gets stabbed?

as far as the op, why are cops such pussies about knives? It's ok not to kill someone who has a knife. it is not illegal to hold a knife in the presence of cops but most of you morons don't realize that.

So you totally missed the first and second cops in holding a bean bag gun and paintball gun, respectively.

It's not a cops job to get stabbed to death by a psycho bitch just so some randos on the internet can feel sorry for her.

I think it’s a human tragedy. Mental illness resulting in her death and an officer who has to deal with it. It’s terrible on all accounts. It’s easy to Monday morning quarterback but that certainly seems like a defensible use of lethal force.

While all that is true it is also true we have issues in police training and whom we employ primarily due to mismanaged spending.

If we paid more, screened better, and changed training standards we would see a drastic reduction in officer involved shootings.

That can all be true and still change nothing about this shooting.

Tight quarters, exit blocked by fellow officers, and she's stabbing.

IMO, the police needed to be MORE aggressive in this situation. They should have had 1 cop with a real gun shoot her inside the apartment as soon as she attacked. They almost shot each other in the hallway.

She definitely fricked around and found out. Justified shooting imo. However why wasn’t a taser used? Are they losing favor as a non lethal measure?

She was calmly standing in her home with a knife answering the door, she took the papers and was reading them there was zero aggressive behavior until the meathead got aggressive and threatened her.

Imagine if perhaps he ignored the knife or calmly asked her to put it away and simply stated his business, he is a prime example of someone who does not need to be a LEO.

Once they used less than lethal shotgun rounds and she charged with the knife, all bets are off, she got what she earned,,,,,I only have one question, why not put the dog on her before the less than lethal rounds,,,,not a cop so I’m genuinely asking

This is one of most unintentionally funny things I've ever read on TD.

Sweetheart, before you share an opinion, ask your husband if he thinks it's valid or stupid.
