On Friday, next Friday means next week. From Saturday on, next Friday means a week from Friday.

I'm thinking this is like bi-weekly, where it can mean twice a week or every two weeks. Like if it's Sunday, and something was happening on Friday, I would just say "Friday ". If I say "next Friday", clearly I speaking about the "next Friday", which would be the upcoming Friday. Both essentially mean the same thing.

I say "this Friday" and "Friday after next". Never once, have I had someone not understand.

If I'm referring to this week, I just say Friday. "Next Friday" for next weeks Friday. When people ask "this Friday?" when I say "next Friday" I say "no dummy, I would've just said Friday if that's what I meant. "

You're good. I call the Friday coming "this Friday," and I often spell it out even more with "not this Friday, but next" when talking about the following Friday.

"Next Friday" is a proper term to be used from Thursday thru Saturday for the following weeks Friday. "This Friday" is to be used Sunday thru Wednesday for the upcoming Friday.

If it's less than two days, I say this Friday. If it's more than two days, I say next Friday. If there's a Friday in between, I say Friday after next.

In an attempt to avoid confusion, I almost always say "this coming Friday" for the next approaching Friday. And then say "the following Friday after that" if going beyond "this coming Friday".

No, you are correct.
It's just short for "this week's Friday" and "next week's Friday" so when you say next Friday you are always referring to the next week, not the current one.

Had to think about this one. I think usually on Monday (say Oct. 10th) I'll start referring to the upcoming (Oct. 14th) Friday as "This Friday". However on the weekends I'll still use "Next Friday" to describe that day, with this "This Friday" reserved for recent-past tense discussions about the weekend still in progress.

If there is not a Friday in between the time you are speaking and the Friday in question, it's 'this Friday'.
example - What are you doing this Friday?
