What do you mean when you say "Next Friday"?

I have always said, "this Friday" when talking about the next one to come and, when I say ,"next Friday," I mean a week from this Friday? Am I the only one that says this? Am I retarded, like my wife says?

So if its saturday I might say next friday for the following friday of next week

If the week hasn't turned over yet, I might still say "next Friday" for the nearest Friday.

"This" Friday is the soonest Friday on the calender.
"Next" Friday is the Friday after the soonest Friday on the calendar.

I just say "Friday this week" or "Friday next week" to avoid any confusion.

I see no uniformity at all in what people mean when they say this, so I avoid it completely....I either say "this coming Friday" or give a date when talking about it in order to avoid confusion.
