Old Money is more about pedigree than anything. The douchey "I'm from ___ and my grandfather was ____ and he owned ____"

I would say lower class is between 0-35,000 a year (family)
Middle 35,001 - 75,000
Upper middle 75,001 - 150,000
upper class above 150k a year.

he was king of a certain mardi gras krewe this year.
he was very uncomfortable with all the attention and functions he was obligated to attend. He usually gets paid $50k per appearance and this deal he actually had to pay to be a part of.

Lets use Troy Landry or the Robinson's for example. Although they are no where near Jay Z wealth, but they can be called millionaires fairly easy. Wouldn't they have certain doors open by their financial status even though they are perceived as white trash?
Jay z actually has quite a bit of respect. He would have far more doors opened if the landrys were equal in wealth.
What I'm saying is those clubs/doors that would laugh at jay z would also laugh at any wealthy guy. It's about the family.
However if the rapper example was someone else, they would most certainly be laughed at regardless of wealth. Jay z just wasn't a particular good example.

Agreed. I get this on a small scale from my SO's family. Their family has historically been very involved in politics, law, and once owned, or still does, this and that in whatever place.
I come from Old Lack-of-Money in St. Amant. Everyone knows us since we've been a part of the community since before it was a community, and everyone knows that we've never had much.

My dad's the most successful member his family's had since they came to this country in the 1860s, but we're still just middle class on a random Louisiana backroad in a podunk Louisiana rural area that doesn't even have a town, but I love it that way. My SO has really had to coach me up a lot for rubbing elbows with higher society than those that dress in jeans, cowboy hats, and steel toes to "Jambalaya" weddings.

Don't get me wrong. He didn't ask to be king. They had to beg him.

This. Jay Z visits the White House and has a home in a country club. Willie Robertson attended the "State of the Union" Address and lives in a mansion. Troy Landry's first cousin was a Congressman and is running for Attorney General. They may not be one of the Kennedy's or Vanderbilts of the world, but there's only a couple thousand of those people in the entire world with that kind of wealth.

Old New Orleans money laughs at old Pierre part money, old east coast money laughs at old New Orleans money, European royalty think we're silly

No doubt. Helps when they are combined.

Trust me, there's not as many true ballers as you think. Most are just upper middle class wannabies, mortgaged to the hilt, wanting people to believe they have more than they do. The true capitalist class, free from want and whim, are exceedingly rare. There are only a handful of these types in Louisiana and only a few thousand in the whole country, mostly concentrated on the coasts.

This.
Also, in the South, there seems to be more emphasis on social class and therefore you have a lot more wannabes and try hards. Most of these "upper middle class" people are just putting on a front.

dude stop, you're embarrassing yourself.
Do you not realize how many self made millionaires due to the oil field and boat businesses that reside in Louisiana that go back to the start of the 1940's and is still thriving though all the booms and bust?
Not to mention the restaurateurs and ballers in the service industry.
do yourself a favor and read this
