I know you are trying to be nice lol....but the middle class carries shite for burden, most are just too stupid to realize it.

Btw apparently using numbers to show how stupid people are is frowned upon except by those that actually understand economics. At least judging by my down votes.

Marginally. The upper class has s growing faster than the lower class however, and most lower class growth can be attributed to importing largely uneducated and unskilled workers, and the higher birth rate among the poor.

Median home price in Dallas county is $247,500. Tarrant county is $243,918. $299,879 in Denton county and $331,313 in Collin county, both of which are the suburbs. $200k will either put you in a very small house in an unsafe neighborhood in the city or in a rural community 45-90 minutes outside of the city.

Doable and commonplace aren't the same though. Your cost breakdown was based on things being the latter.

No, you're just taking home prices in your local area and acting like it's the same everywhere. There's no reason to get all upset, I said everything else you posted was pretty solid.

I have a daughter that lives in a huge house in Ft Worth, it's a mansion compared to what she could get here for the money she spends. It's still an affordable area.

Our friend here earlier who claimed he would have been better off 40 years ago probably wouldn't want t live in the type of house people lived in 40 years ago.

40 years ago everyone lived in a 4000sq ft ranch on four acres that they paid 5k cash for.

Fact.

We lived in a 1600 sq ft house when I was a kid. Family of 5. My grandparents lived in a 1200 sq house ft that my grandfather built himself with a family of 4. All solidly middle class.

For sure, just not $200k. You can get decent to really nice at around $280-350k, but it depends on how far out you're willing to go.

Hell, those houses are $450k and up in Dallas. 2 bed, 1-2 bath, 1200 sqft. You pay for the location. The people who can afford to are just tearing down and rebuilding though.

he makes good points but using the south Louisiana housing market and engineer job market is pretty misleading. Could have made salient, factually correct points without using outlier data.

The Middle class make up about 2.7 times the population of the rich. Their net wealth is smaller but they also probably make up a lower proportion of economic catalysts in terms of job creation and investments in job creating endeavors.

In my neighborhood homes were 900-1200 sq feet. Mixed, blue collar, some white collar. Superintendent of schools lived a couple houses away.

Brick or two story was something you saw on tv.

Some of the same families are still living in that neighborhood. Houses were still considered homes and not primarily investments.

my bad wasn't meaning that to you. Just in general. And not upset at all.

Oh I get it. But Plano, Willow Park, Roanoke, McKinney, and Allen all have median prices under 300k and are top 25 school districts in the Dallas area. But if you are only making 100k a year in Dallas...you either are just starting out, your wife isn't working or making much or you shouldn't be living there or need to look for a better job. Dallas is a great city, but it's expensive. When moving there....you know that going in.

With that being said...median family income in Denton county is 86k. And looking at the median incomes of the suburbs, that is pretty typical.

quote:

Doable and commonplace aren't the same though. Your cost breakdown was based on things being the latter.

Absolutely agree. I didn't say they were common place, just that it was easily doable..

Houston pays just as much as Dallas in most lines of work, more so in many. Just as many opportunities....yet housing can be had in the suburbs for cheaper. Move your arse somewhere cheaper.

I wasn't taking from my area. What I posted is typical of South LA and the south in general outside of a few big cities and as I posted....even in those...you would be above median family income at 100k and we'll above if talking single income.

If median isn't middle class wtf is??

No? Anyone making 6 figures can afford a swanky downtown place easily outside of places like NYC or SF.
