I mean, they're right. The Germans and Japanese can make a much better car than we can.

It's almost as if you didn't know that the British make cars. Like the best cars on this planet and like to remind people of it.

I had an aunt with a mid-80s Jag. We will have to agree to disagree here.

Do you have dual citizenship?

About America....
Huge place, full of amazing national parks, beaches.
Culturally, America seems 100 years behind western Europe.

American food is a mish mosh of world cuisine, which in some cases creates something remarkably unique (creole).
In other cases the original gets bastardized and ruined (pizza).

Thankfully over the 20 or so years I have lived in the U.S. the beer choice has improved. Bud

About Americans...
Americans are often viewed as brash, loud, impolite and full of themselves, especially when abroad.

It's a sad fact that the USA is one of the most obese in the world. 66% are obese or overweight.
It definitely impacts the view others have of you.

Socializing with Americans is usually a good time.
Talking shite about football, politics (Trump....really!!!), playing pool at a local bar is fun. Most Americans have a decent sense of humor from my experience, but there are times when I crack a good line and my friends just blankly stare.
Social events like Mardi Gras and college football at Death Valley are amazing events.

Questions?

Just had dinner with 7 folks from uk.

Fascinated by our ownership of guns, they love Shepard pie, refer to us as yanks and they think America is the biggest place in the world.
Also talked about socialism and why the have nots are leeches and are going to be the death of us all.

I think they view us all as a bunch of mondern day John Wayne's which is perfectly acceptable for this country boy from Louisiana.

Oh and a cigarette is called a fig.

I like the British a lot, but I don't quite get the obesity thing, at least from their perspective. The UK is getting to be pretty fricking fat as well (62% obese and overweight compared to 66% for the US). They are the fattest people in Europe. It kinda of stuck out to me last time I was there, especially in comparison to other parts of Europe.

You should remind him that Winston Churchill was on the phone begging Franklin Roosevelt to save Britain as the Germans were blitzkrieging the frick out of it. Matter of fact, all Europeans should be grateful to Japan, without them bombing Pearl Harbor, they'd all be under Germany still....

Apparently the general consensus in Europe is that the UK is European only by geography. Both the UK and other European countries consider it to be pretty culturally and politically distinct from the rest of the continent and possibly more closely related to the US. For example, I've heard Brits and Irish talking about trips they've taken "to Europe."

They like to pass the American Revolution as arbitrary bc they think "we were busy with other shite, that was merely a footnote" (their schools don't teach much on it). That sense of looking down on us has carried over with the years.
