Make a lot of fu@ckin money is what they do!

The job is easy compared to what they make or else pharmacy school wouldn't be so hard to get into, which it is.

your pharmacists spend 5 years studying what they do - the average doc takes 2-3 courses -
Trust the person behind the counter they are there to make sure you get what you are supposed to and make sure the doc is not prescribing a medication that conflicts with another you may be taking- which is a good reason to get all meds from one source

More like 6 or 7 years for pharmacy.

A lot of this is done on the front end with CPOE and E-scribing.
Doesn't matter. The pharmacist still has check those. A person can can go to several different doctors or ERs and gets scripts. The pharmacist has to cover their tail.

None of the Drs that I deal with send in hand written prescriptions anymore (as far as I know).

One thing I found recently is they check to see if you're prescription has already been filled at another pharmacy. Can't have you loading up on Xanex.

Anything outside of schedule 1 can be e prescribed

I never understood why it took so long to fill prescriptions.

This. Most of the time they don't even count.

sometimes i do wish my job was as easy as everyone seems to think it is.... i mean, look, sure, i'm not digging ditches in 100 degree heat, but it is more difficult than most give us credit for....

That's why I'm asking. I honestly don't know what you guys do. Just wanted a better understanding as to what causes the delays in getting prescriptions filled. There have been a lot of good explanations of things I never considered.

Pharmacies are shite shows. Especially the chains CVS Walgreens. My nearby CVS looks like a miserable place to work. I walked in to pick up once. Each person there looked utterly miserable and near tears from the sheer volume of tasks and minutia.
I noticed, and have heard this from others, that there were no stools or chairs back there. This is on purpose. You do not sit while there.
When not signing shite off or counting pills, they are on the phone.
shite job.

I assumed that but you prescribe animal meds to a pharmacist?
Almost all of the medications used in vet med are "human meds." Only a handful are labeled as " veterinary only". I call in scripts to regular pharmacies all the time to help people save money
A couple examples of meds that cause issues would be thyroid supplements and Amitriptyline. Dogs require much higher mg/kg dose of thyroid meds than humans and so pharmacists always think we are way, way overdosing when we really aren't. The latter is used as an antidepressant in people yet is a great antihistamine for some dogs with allergies - a foreign concept for most pharmacists

I'm a pharmacist at Walmart
My store rarely has over a 20 min wait. If you come and talk to me and are polite I can bump you up and have you out in 5 min.
I don't deal with insurance issues I make the techs do that shite. I make them do everything the law allows them to do (answer phones, count all the pills ect). We actually allow the techs to bag the Rxs
I must admit my job ain't that tough. Worst part is the hours. For example I work from 9-9 for 7 days in a row then have 1 day off come back and do 9-9 for 4 more days (well sat we are open 9-7 and sun 10-6)

Walmart has been on a serious immunization kick. My boss wants me to give way more shots. That's not easy when you got a million people waiting to get their pills. I work at a neighbor hood market so we never have 2 pharmacists at a time like the super stores do.

Why does wal mart have such a shitty offshore type schedule for its professional pharmacists? They seem do have been doing that for years, based on reporting from friends.
