Incorrect.

Actually, in the picture, it is simply white and gold for some people while black and blue for others

It appears there are people in this thread that think that everyone MUST be affected by the optical illusion and therefore, if they aren't, they're lying.
Um, did you folks really get this far in life not knowing that optical illusions don't affect 100% of the population?

I first discovered the pic in this thread without ever hearing about it. It is blue and black

Even when it's white balanced to favor the white and gold crowd, it looks like a washed out blue

This could not be more wrong in the context of people declaring the picture absolutely shows a white and gold dress and anyone who sees black and blue is wrong. It's not like my brain accidentally got the real color of the dress correct.
If it was shown that the dress was actually white and gold, I would understand that my eyes and brain were misinterpreting the dress as black and blue.

Who knew a picture of a dress could bring out so much OT badassery?

I think it comes down to how you want to answer the question. What color is the actual dress, meaning can you see past the optical illusion, or what color does the dress appear in the photo.
I can see all the different shades of brown and blue previously posted, that doesn't mean the dress is those colors. The dress is black and blue because I am answering the question in one of two ways.

People arguing about an optical illusion and whether or not another person's eyes are seeing something "correctly" makes about as much sense as two people debating how salty a food is with one demanding that the other say it's very salty.
Um, maybe the other person doesn't taste salt as strongly.
Good God, stupid people.

I do not doubt that you or anyone else sees black and blue

Don't be mad you are color blind

It's great how personal a lot of people are taking this.

Contrarians don't really need a good reason to argue.

What color is this dress? It's an argument because the dress is actually black and blue, even if there is no way for you to see it. If people were saying they saw pink and purple, it wouldn't be an argument, because those colors would be totally random. But the fact that the dress is actually black and blue, I don't understand how you think people are wrong or making it up.
People's eyes can distinguish false coloring due to lighting, computers cannot and only look at pixels. That's why the colors shown in the post you responded to do not have a black. The last color is black to a brain adjusting for lighting and a bad picture. And the brain is correct, as we know the actual color of the dress.
One million times this.

All I am saying is that if you know which way it was spinning and it is the opposite of what you thought, the question "which way is it spinning?" has 2 answers.
Which one is more correct the actual way or the way it appears? That is what is being argued.

It's obscuring the argument for white gold, sure.
