The Austin skyline has changed drastically over the last decade.

It's WILD.

Cities that have changed a lot, for the better:

-Austin
-Nashville
-Charlotte
-Huntsville

However, of the aforementioned, only Austin and Charlotte have the economic diversification and infrastructure to perhaps get into that next tier of truly big time cities.

America's got several tiers of major cities (in no particular order per tier)

Tier I (Worldwide Hubs)
- New York
- LA
- San Francisco Bay Area

Tier IA (and falling to Tier II soon)
- Chicago

Tier II (Massive, diverse, successful cities with promising growth and large GDPs)
- Boston
- Washington DC
- Dallas
- Atlanta
- Houston
- Philadelphia
- Miami
- Seattle

Tier III (Big mid-major cities on the rise)
- Austin
- Tampa
- Denver
- Charlotte
- Nashville
- Phoenix
- Milwaukee

Tier IV (Big mid-major cities that have slow, but steady growth. No major boom expected in next decade)
- Minneapolis
- Detroit
- Baltimore
- St. Louis
- Orlando
- San Antonio

Tier V (You'd move there if the money was right. No economic engine growth in sight aside from current roster)
- Orlando
- Memphis
- New Orleans
- Portland
- Columbus
- Raleigh
- Salt Lake City

WAY more expensive. We took a great 10 day vacation there in 1993. Today I can't afford a weekend there.

Yes, it's not a half bad town now. My wife and I joke when we can't afford Dallas anymore, we may move to OKC or Tulsa.

Charlotte seems to be a really hot place to be right now. I’m not very familiar with the city, but I don’t feel like in 2010 there was that much buzz around it

It certainly ranks up there with the most changed.

Couple stats:

From 2010-2018 Charlotte (city only) has added 141,100 people (less than Austin, more than Nashville).

Also added 16 buildings over 200 feet tall to its core with 9 more under construction
