You talking about Catfish Hut near DeRidder? Is that place still there?

I'm going to Leesville this weekend.

Will take more notes than previous times and get back to you.

Polk sucks arse. I can't imagine that there's a worse place to be stationed.

My old roommate would drill out there and he always bitched about how hot and awful it was. Good luck.

Stop lying, Darth!

You know that you loved it. Those were the best days of your life, so, you should be honest and tell the folks that you loved it.

I loved being a tanker. In that regard you're correct. I still miss it to this day. I've crewed tanks in Germany, Saudi Arabia/Iraq, Kentucky, Texas, Florida, Alabama, and Louisiana, most of them before we got the NBC system with both cool & heat temp control. Out of all those places, the heat & humidity I experienced at Ft. Polk in August was hands down the worst.

I remember after it would rain you could see freaking steam coming off guy's uniforms and gear. I've never seen that anywhere else.

Awful. Fort Drum may be the only place worse.

You are so lucky. I spent 9 of my 24 years there. 5th Signal 1999-2003 and JRTC O/C 2007-2010. As an LSU fan, I absolutely loved being able to listen to Hawthorne on the radio in those early years. As far as Fort Polk goes, it is what it is. If you like the outdoors, Toledo Bend is the answer. Leesville / New Llano / Deridder do not offer much to do but Lake Charles and Alexandria are close by (50 miles) and offer malls/restaurants and Casinos. On post, all the housing areas are new with a neighborhood pool instead of just one big pool on post. The Commissary and PX are not bad with a Popeye's / Taco Bell in the food court. If you have a specific question, let me know, I can try to help. What is your MOS/Branch?

He's talking about Catfish Junction on Billy Goat Hill. It burned to the ground last year.

Ellick has a nice little airport. Several connecting flights a day to the major hubs. So you can get the hell out of there easily. And based on the number of military haircuts on those flights, soldiers take this opportunity whenever possible.
