This is totally objective, what should a “classroom” be like?

I’m ok with requiring teachers to show growth compared to the previous year, but there needs to be a fixed formula and/or scale that is accessible by the teacher/public. The arbitrary scale that LEAP uses as well as the algorithm used to calculate VAM which no one can seem to figure out are not fair to teachers if you are going to tie their livelihood to that assessment.

And I’m social studies, so we do have a statewide curriculum. Are there some subjects that don’t?

Also, take away welfare from the able bodied.

Make people have to fight (care about school) to survive.

If you concede this, then why would paying teachers more help improve education?

Because quality teachers can close the gap rather than what they have now, which I believe is a joke

Well for one you have 20-30 students, you will not have all of them on task, you will have some going through something at home, a classroom would be one that is engaging despite that. That the students are mostly participating, that students are interacting with each other and the teacher, that the teacher has control of the classroom.

Education only mirrors society.
You won't improve education without improving society.
It gets exacerbated with so many of the "good" kids going to private schools, weakening the overall potential of the public schools.
Until families put forth the effort to help their children by A. keeping two parents around B. pushing their children to succeed and C. quite laying blame on everyone else there is no hope.

I think showing through LEAP can show growth, I also think their are other options such as Moby Max or Success Maker to show growth

i'll disagree because a quality educator can improve their students

families play a HUGE part but quality teachers can improve student scores as well and we've seen that

Alright, then 2 points:

(1) The standard to become a teacher needs to be significantly raised and...

(2) The state better be prepared to pay a hell of a lot more money for the new standard of teachers.

All of what you just listed...been listed...almost as if it is a BS constitutional butthole paper. But John White (who taught what? 4 years in classroom?) Has handcuffed state and EBR. Major setbacks with Bernard Taylor and his pathetic staff (fired in 2 other districts) prior to Warren Drake.

How do you improve EBR for instance?

-you get a federal grant of 10 mil to pay teachers, cops, and find educated and experienced of both previous mentioned. Work closely together. Someone starts a fight? Make him/her have to work arse off to get back? Otherwise...see ya. Then, cops can at least check in.

At age 15, for those who do not want college...train for labor work at specialized plants etc.

At age 21, if you are Male or female and have yet to work or get a GED, use an incentive program to accomodate.

And liberals bitch so much. All that shite is for them.

I mentioned that in my OP

I mentioned that as well

I know the average salary for teachers in Louisiana is apparently 50k, however, that is top heavy and includes non-teaching positions which are the loopholes that districts use.

An educator can only improve a student if that student wants to be improved.
I'm not saying it doens't matter how good an educator is, certainly a better one is better than a bad one, but still the student has to have the will to do better, and that mostly comes from a solid upbringing.

is a total joke to be honest

I believe after 8th grade if a student is not reaching the level needed then they need to be in some technical school. That can be welding, construction, electrician, mechanic, etc... it would reduce the technical colleges in the state. Also, students would learn about the job their 9th and 10th grade year, intern their 11th and 12th grade year and then graduate as a certified person in their field.

they would no longer require a GED as not all students would be required to graduate. Much like Europe students who fall into the technical aspect would be removed from the ACT and other testing as long as they earn their certification in their job field.

Disagree, a real educator can inspire a student who doesn't care to actually care. Is it rare? Yes but it does happen and a quality teacher who is passionate about their field can inspire several students.

I guess what I’m getting at, totally IMO, is that student success is largely dependent on parents & other social factors. To put it as simply as I can, for a lot of public school teachers you’re going to a duel, armed with a banana.

I agree that parents are a HUGE factor, however, a quality educator can have a huge impact as well. The issue I feel is that in Louisiana the "education" degree is essentially a general studies degree and teachers are not passionate about their field. If a teacher doesn't care/understand about what they're teaching, why would a student?

only have to do one thing, well two really.

for grades 1-12 - get rid of teachers unions so if you arent a good teacher you get fired

for colleges - get rid of tenure at all colleges so if you arent a good teacher you get fired and fire all liberal and socialists teaching or giving any speeches there

For the most part this has been done since unions are required for teachers to join

This has been done for most colleges
