I imagine you should wait behind the line until it's safe to clear the lane of traffic while turning. But that's just me.

In the midwest, you will get honked at if you don't do the turning left when the light changes.

what else are you supposed to do if traffic in the left turn lane behind you has already pulled up as well? Just sit in the intersection and block traffic for an entire turn cycle so you don't run a red light?
I wait at the line so I don't get stuck in the middle.

When some dude on an airplane reclines the back of his seat, practically in your lap. Nothing you can do about it. But man, it just pisses me off.

When the person coming out of the grocery store starts to cross in front of me in my car, then proceeds to walk slower than when they started their walk of fame.

You're not supposed to enter the intersection until you've got an acceptable gap to make the turn.

You're supposed to wait behind the stop bar until you can go, not get out into the intersection and wait.

It appears as if we have a conundrum of sorts. Some say it's legal, some say not

At some intersections without a turn arrow, people would sit through several light cycles before turning if they really did this. Common sense says in those situations get out there and be in a position to turn. It will actually help the flow of traffic and it doesn't hurt anything. That's why most cops don't give a shite when they see someone do it.

Being in the intersection when the light turns red is the definition of running a red light. If you did that in one of the photo enforced intersections, you'd be receiving a little picture in the mail.

Alrighty. Whatever ya'll say. I've been doing it for years and have yet to get a ticket for it. In aggregate, it sure has saved me a lot of driving time.

Google it and see what you find out.

Against the law, yes. Do it in front of cop in a regularly busy intersection and you should be good. Around where I live anyways. It just helps move traffic along.

Intersections that don't have an arrow don't have a turn lane, usually because it's not warranted based on the opposing volumes & percentage of left turns, meaning (at least in an anecdotal sense) that they wouldn't be hung out for several cycles. There are some intersections in Lake Charles like this, and I've never seen people get stuck for more than one cycle.

Being asked to take someone through a fast food drive-thru. I don't eat fast food and I despise drive-thrus.

On a related note, being asked to "pull-up" at a drive-thru. Why? So you can forget about me then not bring me the other thing that you'll inevitably forget? frick you.
