Nobody seemed to give an eff about me when I was working in the mortgage industry in 2008

Well that's a little different considering your industry caused the crash with unethical practices

Nah. It was more of a Clinton loosening regulations and Wall Street getting greedy issue. Not the mortgage brokers. Did they underwrite some shady loans? Of course but they were just doing what was within their options laid out to them by banks and within HUD, FHA, etc approved guidelines.

In other words they took on some higher risk options for great returns...legal, but certainly risky and likely unethical.

Just because the government says it's ok doesn't make it ethical. They took a chance and got burned....it happens
I don't need a govt regulation to tell me loaning money to my unemployed cousin with two ex wives and 3 bastard kids would be a risky decision

Just pointing out that you laying blame solely on mortgage brokers is misguided. There's plenty of people and circumstances to blame much the same as the current crisis in the oil industry.

They were just on the front lines of it all
Industry full of people like 480, real healthy

You likening all mortgage brokers to 480 is the same as the OT likening all oil workers to truck nut baws but I get your point.

I get that everyone is happy that gas prices are so low, I am too.. However, the fact that people find humor in other people losing their jobs is sickening... I was laid off and for about three to four months things were very dark for me and my family... Luckily i do have a few skills that allowed me to make ends meet while I searched for a new job, but that's about it... Times are rough man, the situation I went through has put my (financial) life back about 3-4 years. My fiancé and I were just approved for a new house the week before I was let go.. I went through damn near all of my savings during this period and even though I've landed a great new job, I'm still struggling to get back on my feet...
Call me oilfield trash, I don't care... I'm not.. I was fortunate enough to work side by side with some of the hardest working, most generous people for 6 years and while most of you OTers will laugh at this, a brotherhood was formed.. I still talk to 'my guys' weekly to check on them because most of us were either laid off, retired, transferred, or just straight up fired... No pension plan, no severance pay, just a swift kick to the dick and a 'see ya later'...
So while most of you find humor in this, whether you're genuine or not in your snickering, just know that this situation has affected many people, and not all of us are 'oilfield trash'
ETA: Yellowfin, this wasn't directed towards you

Screw those greedy assholes. Where was the prayer when gas prices were killing the economy?
Posted on 1/27/16 at 9:38 pm to Mr. Hangover
There is no humor in suffering. Hope you get back right very soon.

There are a lot of assholes on this site.
It's sad when anybody loses his/her job through no fault of their own, oilfield or otherwise.

Don't care.
They should have saved their yeti and Polaris ranger money in order to go to college.

Almost 100% of that on this board is in jest. Middle class folks generally don't give 2 shits how much gas costs unless it would get into the $4.00 range. For the average OT'er, they wouldn't even notice.

Was there a prayer for when people were struggling to fill up their tanks to get to work, breaking the bank to fill up? Nah so why should it be the reverse. I've been part of an industry in downturn, it happens, and I guarantee when gas goes back up, no one is going to feel sorry again for the consumer....
