What are employers doing for the new FLSA law?

My position as an executive excludes me from this provision for the popes, but I was curious as to what other business owners were doing in wake of this Obama-law?
Hours are going to be very very very monitored now. Curious as to what employers are gonna do with employees that are right at the cut off/were not eligible for this before? This law may affect some of my workers and the contracts we negotiated their salaries on.

I know a lot of people in management positions who have to lay people off or they have to have discussion with their employees who are facing massive paycuts.
I have friends who are forced to go from salary to hourly and instead of being able to work at their own pace and stay late to finish projects they are now forced to adhere to absurd schedules or just work for free to finish things.
Like so many of the laws passed during Obama's dogshit tenure as president, the law was written by out of touch politicians colluding with philosophic lobbyists. In practicality, laws like FLSA and ACA cannot function. They don't work in real life situations. They work in utopian vacuums. In real life they frick over and over burden the people they are purported to help.
It's a sickening display of government ineptitude and a lesson in the need for strict term limits, bill reform, and Lobbyist reform
ETA:
Forgot this was the OT not the PT, in that case, show us pics of your wife, baw. Also, no OT ballers give a frick about this law it's for the peons to be concerned with.

I work on salary + commission. My salary is getting raised to the minimum, and commission payouts are adjusted

My dumbass company gave two salaried employees raises that didn't deserve it. One went from 42k to 47k per year outside of merit cycle..... BS.
Keep in mind these are two emps that I think could have been let go and no effects would have been felt.

Adjusting salaries and/or job descriptions
I suspect weaker organizations are laying people off

We are bumping up a few employees to get them above the salary threshold and monitoring others. Major pain in the arse.

Pain for me. It would be a lot easier to get my work done if I didn't have to keep my hours down to avoid overtime.

FLSA's been around since 1938.
This is just an adjustment in the salary component of the test to see if an employee is truly a white collar executive (who can be paid salary only and worked forever) or is not and must be paid overtime.
The last adjustment was in 2004. Under those 2004 rules, you could make Timmy a "vice president" and not pay overtime if he made more than $23,660 in salary. Now you will have to pay Timmy $47,476 to treat him as a white collar employee and avoid paying him overtime.

FLSA law starts 12/01/16 and fines are supposed to be quick. But we are talking about govt quick so that could be 6 months.
Who knows?

Seems they could split the difference. Or tie it to the median income for the employee's county of residence.

2k or less, give them the raise.
Otherwise, make them hourly and monitor the duck out of hours.
Quite a few salaried folks are expressly expected to work 55 hrs per week. Their new hourly rate looks like shite because it has to be fairly low for their usual pay as hourly to match what it was on salary for the same 55 hours.
And where salaries and hourly are working together, they''all know who makes less than $47460 or whatever it is. And the salaried ones will get dumped on because no overtime.

The did something like that. The Dept. of Labor "is setting the new standard salary level equal to the 40th percentile of weekly earnings for full-time salaried workers in the lowest-wage Census Region, currently the South." LINK

The problem with this is if you suddenly go from 40,000 a year as a manager of a small cafe to $15 an hour think about how hard you get fricked with vacations and leave. Instead of getting paid tour salary you now do not get paid for time off and you cannot make that money back up because of overtime pay.
Sure, you can measure out the hourly pay to make it match an average weekly check of that employee, but it's all of those incidentals and consequences that suck.
That's fricked. And it's a consequence of this not happening in a vacuum.

Yep. Doesn't make sense to have it be the same everywhere though. Even at $48k, someone in San Fran is getting a raw deal. And that same $48k means you're pretty much ballin' in south Mississippi.
