main part of the LA Riots that people seem to forget

a good part of the riots were aimed at Asian (read: Korean) owned businesses... some seen as retaliation for the shooting of Latasha Harlins a year earlier... a 9th grade black girl who a Korean shop owner thought was stealing from her and thus shot and killed her

the shop owner was convicted but only had to pay a small fine and she served no jail time

Similar reaction for me. I was at my office in Texas and the employees gathered around a radio to listen to the verdict. Huge dichotomy of reaction between blacks and whites. Whites said shite or damn and then looked in shock at blacks as they rejoiced. Blacks rejoiced and then realized whites reacted differently.

Huge awakening for the races to the racial divide in this country.

9/11, while historic and tragic, along with all of the ramifications, was a "singular" event. Pearl Harbor was the catalyst that started the American involvement in WWII.

This. Not only did you have the event itself but then you had the years of war after and the aftermath that would have caused far more posts on the thread than anyone could imagine.
