quote:Neighbor and I spotted the survey crew about six months ago and chatted them up. They didn't offer to show us the entire plan, but talked about what I shared with you. One disappointing thing is that is has shrunk from an originally-promised 6' (think about the LSU Lakes walks) to 4' (think about the new sidewalk along Christian Street).
TigerRob20: Did you ever see a plan for this?

Back in the early 70s they made everyone register their bike and pay to put an actual license plate on it. Renewable every year like a car. The money was supposed to be used for new bike lanes. 40+ years later, still waiting for it.

There was/is no "deal" to put sidewalks on Hyacinth by Rouzan.

Apparently, Ms. Riegel doesn't understand the difference between private and public property.
It says much about their journalistic acumen that they choose to spend so much time on this bull shite story. How about doing some real work uncovering the abundance of graft and corruption that abounds in East Baton Rouge Parish.
That would certainly keep them busy.

Obviously solution: double decker streets.
Built with no money. So imaginary double decker streets.

When property is developed the people developing the property decide whether or not they are putting in curb and gutters, sidewalks, etc. and submit their development to the City-Parish for approval. Curb and gutters cost more, and so the cost of lots tend to be more expensive.
Property owners without curb and gutters or sidewalks probably paid less for their property as a consequence. Now people want taxpayers to pay for the amenities? Why? Why shouldn't the property owners?

Family history is that when my Southdowns street was improved around 1962, the property owners were given the choice to have a sidewalk installed for $200. I've always shook my head at how little that was to improve the quality and value of my property, but then again one online calculator puts that amount a little north of $1600 today. Not sure if I would do it...

These same assholes that want the government to mandate sidewalks are the same assholes that cry that these houses in neighborhoods that have them cost more than they can afford.

The interstate is 95% of the problem yet all we've been focusing on is surface streets. All we have to show for the interstate is 30 years worth of studies and millions in wasted public funds.
The only major slowdown on that whole dam interstate seems to be baton rouge. Wonder if they could make interstate 12 go around baton rouge like it goes past New orleans. Then that interstate drive would be glorious
Just reading the bickering from page to page makes me glad i don't live in a city/state that cant seem to find a solution on anything. I guess there's a reason why there is a thread every other day on people leaving the state.

St. George will not only be crime-free, but its infrastructure will consist of wide lane streets, bike lanes, and nature paths.

CCL is trashy?
Has a sidewalk along Blvd Louisiane from the park all the way to West Muirfield. Been there for atleast 18 years. And another along W. Muirfield for a little bit.

LoL. You do know she got this whole thing off of nextdoor.com? This is worse than basing a story off of something you read off FaceBook.
