I am not a fan of the language being thrown around here by some people, but obesity has undeniable and quite impactful externalities on all of us, hence why some people reasonably get so enraged by the huge number of obese people in our society. A lot of people may not be able to see it, but obesity hurts society just as much, if not more, than tobacco addiction (actually a lot more than smoking since smoking rates have plummeted) and alcoholism.

Obesity, ISO, is the biggest problem currently hitting our country.
Worse than opioids, guns, education, loan bubbles, etc.
The fact that people have such a laissez faire attitude about it is insane.

I’ll never understand this. It’s not ok to be fat.

Obesity is tied to more health problems than smoking and drinking combined.
Everything from the pancreas to the heart, liver, lungs, nerves, muscles, bones, and beyond are affected negatively.
But whatever.
It’s, like, not Scruffy’s problem, dude.

It's definitely up there. It's connected with a lot of other problems as well.
I'll go one further: Michelle Obama had the right idea, and I wish she'd have gone ten times further in trying to stamp out childhood obesity and had used much harsher language.

Then j started gaining. I eat 1000 to 1200 calories per day and cannot drop more, in fact started gaining some.
Up your calories (but keep it low carb) and switch to intermittent fasting.
You'll drop weight like a mofo.

Outside of prolonged periods of fasting, this is a complete and total myth debunked by multiple studies.
That's painting with a very broad brush. It depends on the persons existing fat stores.
You can "graze" all day long and still being "starvation mode" if you're calorie deficient.
However, you can fast, even prolonged, and still not be in "starvation mode".
Again, this depends on your fat stores AND what it is that you're eating - when you do eat.

Seriously someone did tell me that adding butter to rolls help counter some. He wasnt a loon, and like one of those "old school Pops drank a glass of milk, and lived to be almost 101" comments. Still wondering if possibly true. Ha.

She targeted the right problem, but didn't attack it correctly.

Her idea was as imbecilic as everyone else that thinks the government can solve this problem. If you think the problem doesn't start/end with the eating habits instilled by parents in the home then you are seriously misguided on this issue.

Like just about everything else, it's a mixture of culture and policy, and they interact with each other. They aren't mutually exclusive.
Certain ag subsidies, health education, the way we structure health insurance, and on and on do play a huge role. Make no mistake about that.
Home environment, the local culture a person grows up in, and peer influence matter a hell of a lot, too. Anyone who denies that is a fool as well, but it all - including government policy - matters when it comes to problems as complex as this.
