Maybe in smaller districts. Larger districts hire non-teacher staff to go out and drive roads in the AM and work with local meteorologist to determine risk and the like. The folks doing the driving are often retired bus drivers or transportation department folks.

With the earlier bus crisis back in sept ebr couldn’t afford to miss days

And since JO & NOLA didn't have any days off for hurricanes, they have a few built in days to miss before they need to consider if they have to add more days on the backend.

A school district administrator who hasn't taught in 10 years is not the same as the biology teacher deciding school is closed

well with weather it's 50/50 chance.

Its just part of the pussification of America. What happened to shutting down shite bc you had to, not bc of some scare tactics that may or may not materialize.

There is a whole lot of moronic shite in this OP. It'll find support here with a quite a few.

It’s just more coddling of a weak society.
Why can’t people watch the weather and decide for themselves if they want to bring their kids to school or not?

I've said it multiple times already. You will have a leg to stand on with this as soon as the "It hit without warning!" shite stops getting spewed with every single tornado/severe storm that causes damage.

You want to talk about a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation? The same people who cry incessantly about closures will be laying blame as soon as that decision isn't made and shite goes sideways. You can say I'm full of shite, but I can promise you I pay way, way more attention to the aftermath of these events, and I know how it always goes.
