Good people in LC/Westlake area, definitely low crime for the most part, unless you really get into a bad part of town. As others have said, tons of places within easy commuting distance of Westlake. Great place to raise a family and have some really good schools in the surrounding area.

He can either live in the Metro area if he wants a more suburban feel to his life, or move up North into South Beauregard parish if he wants something more rural. There are a ton of people moving into the southern part of Beauregard parish and it's not a far drive from Westlake or Lake Charles. There's plenty enough to do regarding nightlife and entertainment.

Where in PA?

Small town close to Clarion PA. Same area I moved from at age 9. I told him he is definitely in for a culture shock.

Lake Charles will feel big, sprawling, and diverse by comparison. Some of those plants in Westlake have more employees than there are people in Clarion.

If your friend is looking to buy a home over rent, your best piece of advice would be for him to take Hwy 378 through Westlake, and don't consider stopping until you reach Moss Bluff.

Tell him to buy a house in Moss Bluff or South Lake Charles.

Regardless of all these glowing posts, it will not be what he is remotely hoping for. Sorry

I know, right? He should just move to Lafyette and commute to Westlake, Lafyette is soooo awesome.

Westlake has a small town feel. Kinda surrounded by plants though. Traffic can be tough, but its temporary. A lot of it should be gone when the plant projects are complete. Westlake also has some of the better schools in the area. As far as kids, the town has a great rec sports program, most of it is free.

IMO this is a good recommendation. Easy drive to Westlake, Lake Charles, etc. Probably will grow a lot in the near future.

If he likes casinos, fishing, and working in a plant, it's the place for him.

Sasol is spending a fortune, as are others in SWLA. Not much activity in Westlake, but LC is boom town
