im selling a vehicle and i had a car salesmen contact me asking if it was still for sale and when i said yes, he says to come in and trade mine in on a new car at his dealership

is this a "thing" now? maybe he had ideas of getting my vehicle for himself for next to nothing as a trade in, but it was very strange

It's just a tactic to get you to set foot into the dealership. They know they have most people once that Rubicon is crossed.

I had a dealer call me and say they’d like to buy my car that I had listed on Autotrader. Told me over the phone what he would pay for it. Drove it to the dealership and he offered me half of what he said over the phone.

1. Yes. Have had vehicle for sale in the past. Did get asked to let them help me sell it... or let them buy it.

2. It's a number game baw. If 10% of people that walk into the store buy. All you have to do is get more people to walk in.

I sold my used truck at a dealership when they contacted me through my craigslist ad. I had already purchased a new truck somewhere else so they just wanted to flip the used truck.

Yeah, it's a thing. I had a car on Facebook Marketplace a few months ago and 2 guys from different car dealerships messaged me about it trying to get me to come trade it in. I just told them I wasn't in the market for a new car and they never contacted me back.

I don't answer my phone unless you're in it as a contact.

Me too. My craigslist asking price was $500 above what I would take. Told used car dealer to take it or leave it at my $500 under the asking price. He arrived to take a look and counted out the cash.
