We’re sitcoms better before there were so many options?

You’d think competition would bring out the best, but it’s hard to compete with shows like:

Growing Pains
Who’s the Boss
Family Matters
Cosby
Facts of Life
Full House
Etc...

Seems like shows today are all quick hits without a lot of real value. I miss the days when we gathered in front of one of the major networks and enjoyed quality TV. Maybe that’s why millineals don’t really have any lasting quality. Just the here and now.

What says the OT?

The Golden Age of the Sitcom was the 1970s:

All In The Family
MASH
Mary Tyler Moore
Bob Newhart

That's not a listing of the decade. That's one night's lineup (Sat on CBS, 1973). The first 3 are all time top 10, and Bob wasn't chopped liver either.

Nah, you were just more invested in those because there were fewer options.

Sitcoms have always sucked, you just didn't have enough perspective to realize it back then

Society moves faster now than it did during the time of the sitcoms you listed. “Viral” content on the internet and social media sometimes has a lifespan of hours to days. Attention spans are shorter and viewing habits have changed to more binge watching rather than waiting for a show week to week.

If I had to guess, I’d say the OP probably posted this from their iPhone and it autocorrected “were” to “we’re”. Mine does it sometimes.

Did you really think including Full House in your list would help your argument?

Sitcoms were better back when the viewer had a sense of humor and didn’t threaten to boycott a show or network if they were offended. That was in the days when comedy writers actually wrote comedy instead of trying to inject every political or social hot topic into a show.

GOAT = “The Andy Griffith Show”

Sitcoms were better then.
Dramas are better now.

TV has more quality than ever. You just won't find it on the networks.

Etc...

At best you had 4 sitcoms simultaneously on air that you're considering all-timers, and 6 total sitcoms over 16 years.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement for "TV was better back in the day."

I know how this thread will eventually turn out. People will list modern sitcoms that are good/great, then people will shite on those sitcoms saying sitcoms during their time were better. Never mind the fact that people remember the highlights of a show and then expect modern shows to beat that every single night, which is absurd.
