I used to know a guy who was a mercenary soldier in Rhodesia back in the day. When he returned to the United States, he killed a guy during a fight and went to prison.

that perspective but that the same time many of these guys were soldiers forged in world war 2 who had a set of skills that led them in that direction. If you have a service that is valuable and can make you lots of money why not provide said service?

So a hit man is ok?

Does anyone here have more info on what these mercenary groups were really up to back then?

My grandmother's cousin was a mercenary fighting commies back then. Got captured his first week there and was executed after trial. Chevy Chase made a joke about him on SNL.

I actually wrote a big paper on them back in college. I remember a big takeaway being that they were used by multi national corporations to protect oil/mineral interests, and in a way conducted small scale warfare while those MNC’s partnered with corrupt officials to strip Africa of what little natural wealth available.

They are often much more efficient than the traditional army as well. It sucks what the government did to Blackwater and those guys that were on trial.

Can someone not get a graduate degree at a school they didn't grow up a fan of?
