Born and raised in Alabama, but I'd probably give you the same response.

So, you're socially challenged

I mean you were in rural New York state. This shouldn't really be a shock imho.

It shouldn't be but it is for most people. When I lived in upstate NY I saw plenty of old beater trucks with confederate flag stickers.

Roll into the NY state fair one year and then try to convince me there's another region with more mullets

Isn't Boston more of a "we stick with our own and don't really like outsiders/yuppies type of town". I could say this about numerous cities around the south.

Perhaps. It was my experience that if you ask anyone there anything, they look at you as though you just shot their dog.

Enjoying the beautiful weather?

Seattle in August probably has the nicest weather on earth. The rest of the year is pretty good also, average annual rainfall in Seattle is 37", average annual rainfall in Baton Rouge 67", Seattle temps are very comfortable year round, most people don't have or use air conditioning, and the winters are very mild.

Every time there is a thread about these "rude" places, I'm pretty sure that's where I should be living. I hate small talk with strangers. I will absolutely say thank you if a door is opened for me or other such courtesy, but I don't want to chit chat about the weather or football or whatever with some rando. People in the south think they're being "friendly" but a lot of times to other people, it just comes off pushy and obnoxious.

You've been saving this sweet arse story for a while now. Hasn't rained since June 18 and that was overnight at like 4am.

Your lack of desire for social interaction doesn't make other people "pushy and obnoxious".

I'm the same way as you. I don't want to ask you about your day or tell you about mine. But that's a "me" problem. Not theirs.

My in-laws in Silverdale don't have A/C. It's in the 50s - low 60s most nights and the hottest month of the year (August) it'll reach mid 80 during the day....one time.

Their electric bill runs around $40-$50 per month in the Summer. They told me one time the bill hit $70 for the month and they received a letter next month saying for them to cut back on electricity usage.

Damn hippies.

I'm saying that that is how it seems to someone like me. So, while that is a "me" problem, so is it a "them" problem when they find people to be unfriendly. Different strokes...

Fair enough. I really wasn't trying to insult you. Sorry if it came off that way.

This is a stupid story, we just went almost 60 days without rain, and the little we had was late at night. I don't get your motivation for this story, to prove how Southern you are and how many buttholes live in Seattle. Either way, it is dumb.

The bar story is believable, but i doubt that happened, most Seahawks fans up here love to go on and on about how awesome their team is going to be this year. blah blah blah

I lived in Seattle for 2 years, now i live in Bothell, the young tech people in Seattle aren't too friendly, most of them are consumed with their jobs and such. Out in the burbs, it is awesome. It's going to be hard to ever leave and go back to Baton Rouge.

I get the "not a fan" of small talk thing. But I think there is an common skill of being able to engage in socially normal behavior (pleasantry to strangers) while simultaneously ensuring you don't get into a full blown conversation.

In my experience PNW people aren't particularly rude, they're just sometimes socially inept. And that gets back to what I'm talking about. It's not "inept" to not be all that talkative with strangers, but if you can't muster an "it's almost here man!" and raise your beer glass to the OP in that situation...there is something wrong with you.
