There are some kids I can tell are gay from very early on. Unfortunately for those kids these days if their parents are fricking lunatics, they now think the kid is transgendered. I know two gay guys that said they’re glad they grew up when they did because if they didn’t and their parents were lunatics, then they’d likely determine their child was transgender when really they’re just gay. We’re about to have a reckoning over what we’ve done to these kids.

So, after reading those lyrics I can see that it might be a song that’s trying to say “your kids are going to grow up in a better, more tolerant world and there’s nothing you can do about it” with the “we’ll convert your children” line being tongue-in-cheek.

I can also see how it might be a song about literally converting children, that uses the tolerance lines to give them an out if people get offended.

I think it’s probably the former. If it’s the latter, it’s obviously disgusting.

But here’s the thing - even if it is tongue-in-cheek, it shows fricking awful judgement to make that kind of “joke” at all. It shows even worse judgement to make that kind of “joke” without making it 100% clear that it is, in fact, a joke.

Any normalization of jokes/comments/whatever about “grooming” kids should terrify the gay community, because that’s how you create a backlash from the 50+% of the country who live in the ideological middle ground.

It almost reminds me of the backlash Eminem created when he kept making jokes about the Columbine shooting like a year after it happened. EVERYBODY KNEW he was joking but it was still a shite storm at the time.
