Welcome is a weird word

People don’t use welcome very often anymore. And I think a lot of that is because it’s a difficult word.
I made a post years ago about how I thought saying NP instead of your welcome was a bit too informal and got called out for it,
Per the definitions,
Welcome is both seen as an invitation and acceptance at the same time.
But there’s something ethereal about it. I dont know. I don’t care that I’m the only one who thinks of this shot. Y’all have a good night.

My kids used to always tell me they were going to the bathroom when we were at home and so I started saying welcome every time they got back. It annoyed them and they quit telling us.
That’s all I got.
That’s all I got.

It fits. People these days have an odd reaction to it. Because it’s so unexpected

We’re talking five and under, so I’m not sure they really understood the meaning, but it is interesting that at even that young age they found the word annoying.

There’s a person I deal with in our accounting department. I usually end an email with thanks or thank you when she addresses an issue for me. She responds every single time with “Welcome.”
It kind of weirds me out to be honest.

It’s what she says when you’re steadily pounding away and she’s ready for it to end.

What’s weird is “take” and “give” are complete opposites, but “caretaker” and “caregiver” have the same meaning.
….which leads me to ask, why do we say we are going to “take a shite”?

Try using "salutations" instead

The same reason we park on the driveway and drive on the parkway.
I have no idea.

If you are this fricked up about ‘welcome’, your head is going to be really up your arse when you find out that “Aloha“ means both hello and goodbye.
