creosote pilings, it reminds me of the summer house we had on the coast as a kid...

The pier was constructed with those pilings...

Wow. I haven't thought of that smell in years, but it came back to me the moment I read your post. From back in the day when my aunt would give them to her babies and later, when I babysat other people's kids. I didn't give them to my own children.

A mixture of creosote,

When I was a kid we lived in Liberty, Texas for a few months. We would walk by telephone poles and pop creosote bubbles. Another forgotten smell. Thanks.

Here's one you young whippersnappers won't know, but the smell of freshly mimeographed papers as the teacher passed them out. As you took your paper and passed them back, you smelled the stack. Ahhh.

For some reason, wet dog.

Dirty, wet little boys who've been playing all day. It's a stink only a mother could love (when it's your own child).

That's a good one. The little bit of smoke that comes of the chamber of an M4 right after firing.

I've always said if 3-in-1 Oil and Hoppes came out with a cologne, I'd wear it.

There used to be a lubricating oil called S.O.K. that smelled awesome.

Reminds me of passing thru Pineville or Benton. The only 2 creosote plants I know of.
