We've been at war with Iran for decades. It has been and is going to continue to escalate.

I completely understand the power vacuum component.

I would just prefer that over the nation-building quagmire especially if we don’t have a permanent presence.

frick em up and bring our boys back home. Let them sort it out.

Well..... Assassinating Iran's top general on foreign soil is a good way to get a war going.

War there has been hotter than the cold war since as long as i can remember 1972 ish.... one well placed minuteman, trident or B61... game over.... fight savagery and brutality with a level of violence they can neither counter with nor defend.

Iran's power and foothold in the Middle East isn't something that can be toppled with a simple coup. Our efforts in the Middle East have always been about jockeying with Iran for power in the region. This was a direct attack on a high-ranking Iranian official that is sure to escalate the ongoing conflict(s). I don't anticipate an Iraq-type ground invasion but just a continuation and further escalation of what is and has been happening for decades.

ETA: I think that was the year he was exiled and the ragheads took over our embassy within a year?

When I was younger, I thought war was cool, and sending our military into conflicts was badass and patriotic. But I also thought hurricanes coming our way were cool because I could miss school. That was before I owned my own home and had something to lose.
Now I grew up, and I no longer think hurricanes or wars are cool.

Anyone else notice the price of gas go up today?

Yeah, oil went up 4% right after the news came out last night. The gas at the gas stations are already bought.. Yet they start bumping those prices up.

I've been a student of Iran since the embassy ordeal - quirk of fate on selection day had me in the med instead of gulf for 87 skirmishes....

none of those frickers over there can ever be trusted, they're none of them that can be considered an ally in any sense of the word, a fricked up, unstable place, we've always tried to prop up whoever is the least unstable at the time, it seems
