Anyone who nearly fights at Christmas dinner over something so fricking stupid is not a professional. So neither of you are.

Don't know about professional, but truck drivers are the most essential of folks on the planet. More essential and important than any of the "professions" you list.

I can live without a doctor, but I can't live without all the goodness that a guy named D'Wayne from West TN who drives a big rig and nails lot lizards brings me.

My dad was a truck driver his entire life. He has done it all. Mainly flat bed owner operator but did spend some years hauling cars and his last 10 or so hauling heavy equipment. Let me tell you that there absolutely is a such thing as a professional truck driver. Unfortunately they are an endangered species. The vast majority of “Truck Drivers” you see on the road and getting pumped out by Diesel Driving Academy are definitely not professional truck drivers and honestly shouldn’t even have CDL’s.

A guy running delivering a routine daily route isn't a professional. The lead driver of a cross-country heavy hauling outfit definitely has the makings of a professional. Hauling something worth a million dollars and could hold up a billion dollar project if it gets damaged aint no pussy shite.

Damn near everything you purchase is because of that particular professional certification. It requires a costly course that includes classroom and hands-on instruction.

Those drivers are vastly under appreciated.

Sincerely,
Never been a driver

You should have seen the debate we had over daylight savings time. Thought a full 2L of Dr. Thunder was about to get thrown at someone’s head.

It is a commendable profession that requires both motor skills and people skills. Many could not do it successfully.

I remember my pop tell me how difficult those jobs were whenever I was a kid and how much he tried to stay courteous to them on the road and while they were working. Then I grew up and realized how many are meth’ed up and complete aholes who will be jerks on the road just because they’re bigger than everybody else.

This. I inherited the shipping and receiving functions once at a previous employer. It's shocking how many abjectly stupid, drug addled, irresponsible, careless, pieces of shite are truck drivers. I had one fricker not show up at a customer with my load. When the dispatcher tracked him down, he was in Biloxi at the Casino, and my trailer was at his house in Jackson when it was supposed to be in San Antonio.

The truly good ones are like gold, but damn, they are rare.

Tell him to come read this board, he will change his tune about those professional courtesies we extend to doctors and lawyers.

Of course someone who drives truck is a professional. I can’t back up a big rig. I wouldn’t even know how to get the thing to roll.

Of course there will be dickheads that don’t treat truck drivers with respect, but those people suck.

Go ask a doctor or lawyer to back up a trailer. You will be thoroughly amused

Go ask a trucker to take out somebody’s appendix

Or possibly horrified
