The biannual time change hysteria on this board has entertained me for years.
There is no GD good reason for it, it's expensive and it kills people.

Split it 30 minutes and forget about it forever

Are you suggesting that we would offset the clocks in the US 30 minutes with the rest of the world, so we'd have to take into account half hours that other areas are ahead or behind? That's a really dumb idea.
Also, I think this is a pretty much annual tradition but it'll never change I assume because of all the coding that would have to go into getting computers and networks changed over.

DST does not work in the winter months...
Beg to differ. I hate when it's dark before 5pm.
Besides my own personal preference, studies have shown that year-round DST would reduce traffic accidents and fatalities, save energy, spur economic activity, and lower crime rates in the evenings.

Arizona nor Hawaii participate.

The states that do not observe daylight saving time (DST) are Arizona (with the exception of the Navajo Nation) and Hawaii. Additionally, the U.S. territories of American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands do not observe DST.
Ask them how they did it.

It’d be worth it to me just to not have to see so many people correcting it any more.
Without proper grammar and correct terminological usage, we’re no better than heathens. I just can’t let it go, and this board is pretty bad.
Interesting that you consider the corrections potentially more irritating than the errors themselves.

believe it when i see it.

No shite.
"It would be keeping Daylight Savings Time year round for more daylight [in the evenings]" is obviously implied

I like it to get dark around 7pm. So let’s set our clocks to whatever that is

I’m not a big fan of Standard Time, but I also realize that we have Standard Time because it would be dark well into the morning if we stayed on Daylight Savings Time.
i'd be fine with that. I rather my kids play outside after school than it getting dark around 6 during the few months that it is pleasant to be outside on the gulf coast

Would you like it being dark at 9 AM in the morning? That's what it would be at my house...

I would imagine they long ago (possibly before computers/internet) changed their coding and/or incorporate the approach from the start now for new machines. That's a bit different than 48 states worth of people and businesses and the entire federal government trying to all change it over at the same time.

If given the choice between dark at 9 or dark at 5 I'd absolutely choose dark at 9.

We survived y2k... we can handle stopping twice yearly clock change.

So you'd be ok with your kids walking to school in the dark? That's dumb.

I want more light in evenings.
So I want dst?

I'm on your team, I'm just shedding light (SWIDT?) on why it likely will never actually happen. It's like the sparing of the White House turkey's life...it's tradition at this point.
