People here don't know how to hold their nose and vote. JBE should have never been elected. In both cases we would have been better off had he lost.

I finally had enough and cancelled my 17 year subscription to the Advocate 1 month ago. I don’t miss it at all. I encourage everyone else to do the same. Pinko commie rag.

Did you read the Article ? I thought he pretty skillfully addressed that our mascot would not be changed and why it shouldn't be.
Seems to me like the administration is using the Advocate to get out in front of this and control the narrative before the "Cancel Culture Mob" got all whipped into a frenzy about it.

The Advocate is the only major newspaper in the New Orleans area now and I still don't think it's going to survive because it's a piece of shite site and paper (combine that with most people just getting online news wherever they can now instead of reading papers and you have trouble). Nola.com used to have a very nice looking site and a good layout with their comment section that made it a popular site due to quick updates and sense of community from people commenting about stories/their neighborhoods. The Advocate's comment section is so awful and confusing that people don't even comment (which I think must be intentional since everyone has commented on it).

The Advocate (like most print newspapers) is dying on the vine. Like you said, the goal of most of their articles is to create controversy to get views by the "angry people" in addition to the ones that align with the writer's positions. Plus, there is no money to be made as a journalist anymore. Thus, they are left with hiring idealistic, young, bozos who are willing to work for peanuts in exchange for their "power" as a journalist. This is the by product of that situation.

A word of advice. Just stop reading the Advocate.

You realize this administration just changed the name of Middleton Library when there was legit push-back against a name change?

That was a tiny pushback mostly from Middleton's family. Nobody has ever really given a shite about the LSU library because it was such an eye sore. Let them try to get rid of the Tiger mascot though and you would see a shitstorm the size and strength of Hurricane Katrina that would wipe LSU out.

You know what reminds me of slavery? People whose ancestors were slaves. Cancel 'em!

Someone needs to lock Tom Galligan in his office. He can't seem to bend the knee fast enough these days.

Is that what he was doing with the headline "LSU needs to come to terms with Mike the Tiger nickname's Confederate past"? And since he noted that the interim president of LSU did not respond for comment, I doubt LSU officials are using The Advocate to get ahead of cancel culture (especially since cancel culture morons usually need someone to tell them that they need to be offended about something in the first place).

So fricking what?!?

Coca-Cola was stated by a KKK member, but I'm not giving that up.

It's not like the teams are running out in Confederate gear.

How the advocate stays in business In a red state with shite like this astounds me

I feel like the Times-Pic/NOLA.com increased its' woke levels when the Advocate purchased them. Can't even look at that site anymore now.

The editors who used to run the Times-Picayune before The Advocate was in NO now run The Advocate. That’s why you now see hype-driven, click-bait, hard-left coverage.
