No white smoke so far, likely means they did not elect a pope on the first round of voting this morning.
Expecting smoke around 6:00-6:15am EST.
They will break for lunch after the 2nd round of voting and return for afternoon session at 9:45am with a vote at 10:30am EST

They put a special powder on top of the ballots before burning them, so that probably burned off and the ballots were still smoking. It’s been a problem before, when people thought there was a pope and there wasn’t.
They used to use wet straw to enhance the color, but stopped that for a special powder.
They will now also ring the chapel bell so everyone knows and other churches in Rome can ring their bells.
Burning the ballots to signify a new Pope is really not that old of a practice, only a couple hundred years or so I believe

According to CNN, they did the 2nd and 3rd votes B2B, so we await the vote around 1300 Eastern time.
They must be getting close.

Next vote (3rd today and 4th total) will be after lunch, probably around 11:30am EST and then immediately followed by a 2nd afternoon vote, which will probably take until 1:00pm EST
