One saved my life (and it was a enjoyable car to drive).
Had it six or seven years, probably put 130K on it. One electrical issue (came at an inopportune time, but I don´t recall it being tremendously expensive).
Love Volvo? Almost.
I´ve never pressed my luck past this (buying another).

I own a 2011 S60. Negotiated a 7 year 100k warranty and 36k scheduled maintenance. Haven't had one issue. It's been a great vehicle. The mother fricker moves too.

Safest car on the road, and that road leads mostly to the service department at the dealer. My wife had one she purchased new before we were married, don't remember the model number. Just routine maintenance was running $500-1000 every 7500 miles, radiator started leaking at 50K miles, numerous electrical issues.

XC90 was the biggest piece of rap I ever owned. Had it towed around 3 times in the first couple years. Never again. I've never had a new vehicle give me that much trouble.

We have the new 2016 XC 90 and this is our 3rd Volvo. My wife swears this vehicle is by far her favorite of all the vehicles she's ever driven. Just for the record, we've never had ANY issues with ANY of our Volvo's. They are 100% solid. She'll never drive anything else!
By the way, to the original poster...if you get the new XC90, you will not be disappointed at all!

I've owned two Volvos in my life. Both were great cars to 60,000 miles, then things just started breaking.

Volvos are ridiculous safe. I think someone told me they test crash them by driving them off a 4 story building.

My wife had 2 and we loved both. S60 was awesome but was a little tight once we had kids. Traded that in for a XC70. Loved that car. Roomy, comfy and fast.
Never had any issues with either outside of routine maintenance.
Traded the XC in at 145k (12yrs old) for a Toyota Highlander last year and hate it! My wife wanted a 3rd row and I pushed her to go ahead and get one rather than waiting for the new XC90. I regret it. We will probably trade up for the new XC90 in the near future.
Don't listen to the folks saying maintenance is expensive. It's not bad.
Knowing your wife and kids are running the roads in a volvo is good peace of mind too.

Finally getting rid of my clunker and was car shopping online today. Found an s60 very reasonably priced that I really liked.
Glad this thread was started. I'm not rich enough to have a car that is unreliable to many people (with expensive repairs).

I've owned a volvo and an acura. Both had expensive repairs IMO. The volvo was one of the best riding vehicles I have owned and would consider again. The main issue I have is I hate the dealership in BR and for certain things you have to bring it to dealership.

I know two people that owned them and vowed never to again. Both had AC and transmission issues
