I actually liked most of the people we meet, but like the good old days, and like my grandparents taught me. (And I bet most all of you) avoided politics and religion, which used to be considered terrible manners anyway. )
The people in small towns along the coast, even in Big Sur, were incredibly nice and friendly. Even had a 5th generation Santa Barbara guy buy me a drink, and tell me a very good inappropriate joke about the place we were eating. His son was throwing a temper tantrum, and he was apologizing for that, etc. (He was appropriately punished btw. )
It was hilarious and I have been through those days, I suspect that he was no liberal btw. But who cares, great guy

CA gets a bad rep on this board due to the politics seeping in. It's an amazing place. I just spent a week at 8500 feet plus- hundreds of trout. Just a wonderful place to explore. Don't let the haters blind you to its beauty

It’s the people especially the elites not the land and ocean.
If around 40% of the land wasn’t federal property they would have destroyed the land as well.

I live in the central valley. If you poke around, it's beautiful. I have a 10-20 min drive to so many swimming holes on the Tuolumne or Stanislaus Rivers. I'm 45 min from great trout fishing, and 1.5 from insane trout fishing. Can beat any bay area traffic getting to the Sierra. I can also go to the bay area anytime I want in an hour, can be at my company's office in SF in 2 (don't even have to drive). Location location location.... Also, laid back life with great fruits and vegetables and meat to be bought all over.
You live in Gilroy or Salinas? How can you get to SF in 2 hours without driving?

We would adjust. Almost all of their fruits and nuts can be grown in Mexico or Florida depending on the nut/fruit.
There are a few problems with relying on Mexico as a source of food. Cartels have worked themselves into trade of agricultural commodities thus we are funding their violence by purchasing food products from Mexico. Additionally, domestic food production is a matter of national security and dependence on other nations is a huge risk.

The problem with California is that it's full of Californians.
