We might know the same girl. Same friend straight faced told me pre-kids that she was going to be a good mom because she has dogs, and it's basically the same thing.

I'm not saying to take a two year old to some Michelin starred place or something but not taking them anywhere at all is not how you teach them to behave in restaurants. I took mine and if they started misbehaving or acting fussy I took them outside. Before long they knew the rules and kept their shite together. Not to compare them to pets but you wouldn't socialize a puppy by keeping him locked in the backyard. Why would that approach work with a child?
And ONLY taking them to Chuck E Cheese is a great way to teach them that eating out is specifically the time to act a fool.

Exactly. My kids learned to behave in public at a very early age and it's because I used the opposite approach as the OP's friends. A child needs to be taught limits and discipline. Those parents are going to have some long years ahead of them.

I don't understand people like this. It's as if they think they have it worse than anyone else in their situation.
In general, people grow up with the idea they want this or will do that, without thinking about the details and if they are truly ready for the responsibility.

It's fulfilling far more often than it's not. I didn't really understand it myself until I had children, but a lot of people consider their role as a parent to be the most fulfilling role in their life.
And unless you have some sort of hell spawn, they reciprocate love all the time (at least until they're teenagers).
