So sick of hearing the media and politicians talk about how resilient the people of south Louisiana are. Its a code word for stupid.

The only difference between people who keep rebuilding after a hurricane and people who move away is intelligence - not resilience.

I realize I am part of the stupid crowd and I have accepted that, but please don't patronize me by calling me tough or resilient...I'm sick and tired of this.

Yes. Maybe it will cause more people to wake up so that my local government does not have to keep supporting people who can't support themselves. At least I can support myself.

Another alternative is just to not say anything. When someone gets knocked out in a fight, you don't say to them "you are so tough".

I think the issue is slightly more complex than that.

I'm sorry that the media has been trying to lift you up lately. You may consider yourself weak and stupid if it makes you feel better.

My grandfather always said, “If you are going to be dumb, you have to be tough.””

the resillience is building it back yourself and not waiting for someone to do it for you. the amount of progress after a week and a half is insane

I have to say I’ve been pretty impressed by how well this has been handled. I know there’s been some hiccups but the response have been overall really well done. A lot of room for more improvement obviously.

I was out of power for two days and had to pick up a few limbs. I will have to replace a couple of sections of fence that needed to be replaced anyway. I know I have it much better than some, but it's hardly more than a mild inconvenience and it only happens a couple of years. Why would I move because of that? If something happens and I have to completely rebuild, I'll reassess then, but no matter where I go, there's the opportunity for catastrophic damage.

I'm not talking about government response. Organize the linemen (props to them) and then get the frick out of the way. Outside of the power situation, businesses and individuals cleaning up and taking care of each other has made the biggest strides.

Yea I got what you were saying, I just mean I’ve seen a ton of people returning home and cleaning and running generators and handling their shite.

That’s nice to see.
