We have the technology to make self driving cars but not desalinate water from the pacific ocean for the western US to use?
We have the tech. The scale to supply that much seawater would be cost prohibitive

Really, how is Abu Dhabi doing it then?

It really is comical.
Looks like around 4 times as much water is used to grow almonds as is consumed by Los Angeles.

It’s automated morality.
It’s a preprogrammed sense of superiority that isn’t grounded in anything substantive.

They aren’t at this scale. They’re supplying 297 million gals per year
Lake Mead alone is losing 300 billion net gallons per year
quote:
Six feet of water is an average loss of 300 billion gallons per year on top of the water withdrawn for human use and power generation. About 40 percent of the annual evaporation occurs in June, July and August — enough to supply water to 75,000 Las Vegas Valley homes for 12 months. Excessive heat waves can easily account for more than 10 billion gallons of evaporated water this week alone. That's enough water to fill 15,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

Las Vegas does not contribute to the water issues either, they are very good with their water. It is California and L.A. that are causing the most issues (imagine that). California has been stealing water for over a century.
Really dumb post, hurt my brain.

In spite of all of this, population continues to grow and water usage rises.
What if I told you a large amount of that water is sold to Mexico?

funny, it's actually the farms in the central valley which is the most conservative area of the state that is using/wasting/stealing most of this water
And it's the progressives on the coast that wont allow things like desalinization plants to be built to address the shortages.

That's why they've decided to just throw together a little pipeline from the Mississippi River to the west coast. They say they can have it done by 2025.
Wait a sec, hold on a minute.
How many environmentally protected watersheds, aquifers and ecologically irreplaceable wildlife areas will THIS pipeline destroy?
When do the protests start?
This must be a (D)different type of pipeline.

Hush up. We don’t want them.

I refuse to be concerned about climate change when they build metro areas in the damn desert and freak out about water shortages

The Sparta Aquifer supplies most of Northern Louisiana. Its only source of recharge is rainwater from a particular area of Webster Parish where the Sparta sand reaches the surface. The paper mill in West Monroe used to draw 10 million gallons a day from the Sparta Aquifer.
I'm not aware of the recycling efforts, but I do know they now draw water from the Ouachita river... Which is what they should have been doing from the get go.

I hope it’s resolved. I don’t want more of those bastards moving here. They are locusts.

Go do some research on the matter. LV is extremely good with their water usage and doesn't take more water than they put back into Mead.
Not doubting you or anything but how do they go about putting back at least the same amount taken? What's their other source of water?
I'm ignorant of the subject.

How many retention lakes did Cali build in the last 5 years in preperation for a wet snowy winter? They had the snowiest winter on record how much will drain to the ocean?
Posted on 4/9/23 at 2:38 pm to Thundercles
I am visiting the area later this month. Should I take an empty bottle of water and go fill it up, wait for the lakes to dry out, and then put bottle of water on sale on eBay?

I don’t know about all that, but if you’re ever around Lake Powell, go to the Birdhouse for the best fried chicken in America.
