Water Institute - what exactly do they do?

At face value; The Water Institute is working towards the right mission at the right time, with the right technology and resources.
Reading articles such as this one gives me concern that we’re not really sure exactly what it is that they do, and if they’re even capable. Any of you baws have insight?

It’s a legitimate question because the research facility has largely been funded on the public dime and, as a nonprofit organization, pays no taxes. Yet it has competed for research grants against universities and for contracts against private firms, subjecting it to criticism from academia and engineers alike. It has tried to carve out a space that is part academic, part government, part private sector, and as the Meselhe incident suggests, it’s not clear it really knows what it wants to be. It’s certain many in the broader community have no idea.

Did you read this on the OT yesterday?

They study the wetness of water.
No, seriously they have a large scale model of the Mississippi River and run studies on how making changes impact the delta.

I see better institutes walking around the LSU Quad.

They institute water. Duh.

The institutionalization of water is inherently racist. #boycottwaterinstitute

Hey Tuna,
You delivered more votes out of district X than we’ve gotten in 20 years. How about a cushy job on this board we created for just such an occasion?
But my backgrounds in PE
That’s ok. When kids go to PE they get thirsty right? When people get thirsty they drink water right? There you go.

I’m guessing like most government things- probably 15% is good necessary work, and the other 85% is political payoff and kickbacks.

At this point they aren’t doing much. They’ve lost all of their top engineers and they tried that ridiculous lie based prosecution of their top modeling engineer, Meselhe. The Institute is now run by a non-scientist who has no clue what he’s doing. Unless they clean house and start over, they will (and should) close.
