I'd take that one-week suspension as an opportunity to look for another gig, and then quit with no notice.

Need to hear both sides of the story. I've heard "my son dindu nuffin" enough times to be skeptical.

If he violated company policy by buying the cookie, then the boss is correct. That said, the reaction of the a-hole other customer is inconsequential to the decision.
It didn't. He was suspended not fired. And it could have been for violating policy, not just being kind. But we don't know because we've only heard one side of the story.
ETA: important distinction brought up by twenty49... did he actually buy with his own money? Or did he give away a cookie?

Whats the story of the offended family who wanted to beat up the kid?...local Katy folks?...race? not that it matters, I guess...
Well, they accused him of being racist for buying a cookie for a cop but not them.
Draw your own conclusions and assign races to the characters as you see fit. For all we know, it was a black kid who bought a cookie for a black cop and it was white trash who got all bent out of shape.

am the same. Everyone is all up in arms over some teenager's account to his MOM of what happened. Yeah...grain of salt there. T
Yep. Back when I was a kid I could come home a tell my mom a story about school and literally 2 minutes after I tell it to her, she is on the phone with someone else blowing the story to an entirely different level

Wouldn't shock me if there is exaggeration from the mom. However, I've seen enough similar behavior from good baws going to college in the fall and corporate America giving into shitty behavior to believe it.

If I was a business owner in the area, I would go hire the kid. That is the kind of worker you want in your store...

This particular cookie place has a VERY unique phone number. six of the seven digits are the same.

Wonder what the security cam showed.

I could totally see it happening. Chain restaurant management are terrible and I've done enough customer service jobs to know there are plenty of people that would react like what's described in that post.
But I also know that 99 percent of the time, people lie about what happened in life to make themselves look better. Especially mothers and their kids. We are the protagonist in our own lives, and it is hard to realize you're the bad guy.
I just wouldn't trust this version of the story 100 percent

The police officer allows a teenager to buy him cookies (weird)
I don't see the offer or the acceptance as weird. I've bought coffee for cops and military in line before. I've also bought for people who didn't have enough money or correct change or whatever. It's a cup of coffee or a cookie or a Coke not a mortgage payment or a car. It's just civility, a nice gesture, something we all could use a little of especially the following customer.
Kid just did something he thought was nice and got reprimanded for it. Over a cookie. Mom may have been a bit overboard, as many mothers tend to be but nevertheless it's a fricking cookie. If I'm that polite kid, I'm politely telling them I'll find another job since I wouldn't want to work for anything with Great American in the name that would not allow me to act like a great American.
Over a cookie. Hello 2017.

I have not heard about this story but I do live in Katy and I can promise you this is a pretty tight small community "Old Katy" anyway and the folks around here will raise all kinds of hell if true.
They love God / High School Football and America, they back the Blue and all branches of the Military in that order.

I just passed Katy Mills Mall via I-10, and broke wind in its general direction.

I used to give police officers or first responders free pizza if they were on the job and stopped in between 10PM and close. I never heard a peep about it from anyone, but upper management wouldn't have said anything unless it started to negatively impact my numbers.

This morning, we became aware via social media of an incident which occurred at our Great American Cookies store at Katy Mills mall this past Sunday. One of our team members in an act of kindness purchased a brownie for a police officer. A guest behind them became upset at the incident. The situation escalated quickly and resulted in exchange of words between the employee and the offended guest. Due to a set of unfortunate circumstances, the employee, was suspended. After further review and a detailed investigation, we have confirmed that the employee was in the right. As a result, we have reached out to speak with the employee and his mother to issue an apology and the corrective action and suspension has been reversed.
