The Battleship Texas, the last remaining battleship that served in both World Wars, is headed to Galveston today for repairs.

Would be badass if they fixed it up enough to drive it back.

I hadn't kept up with this. I knew there were some legitimate concerns about hull integrity and being able to refloat it. Glad to see they sorted it out. It's a cool ship to tour if you haven't done it before. Those guys were not living in the lap of luxury on that thing.

Doubt that's even a possibility. That things propulsion system has to be beyond obsolete.

She is the last true dreadnaught class battleship in the world.

Considering when she was built, the movie title should be Dreadnaught 19PV5

Glad they found the money to fix her up. There were plans to scrap her a few years ago.

Impressive -100+ year old warship. I can’t get a dishwasher to last 5 years.

That Thunderstruck sequence was the best scene in Battleship.

Those aliens will have fricked up putting a bubble around Houston…I think…or maybe we’d be okay with that.

Does it have a new permanent home? I had read previously that it wasn’t likely to go back to the San Jacinto monument.

It has quite the war history from the early twentieth century.

Im a sucker for that movie. Its not really good. But makes me feel good. Only beef i really have is why do they have to jump off the back of the sinking JPJ. Rihanna and other jumped like 20 feet they climb all the way to the back to make a 300 foot leap by spinning props?

Definitely won't be heading back to La Porte since that location is incredibly inconvenient but they haven't announced a new site yet. It will be in dry dock for a couple years for some extensive repairs during which time they will work on the new location.

Not yet.

quote:

In 2019, state lawmakers approved the repairs, but with the condition it finds a new home once repairs are complete.

“Historically, the number of paid visitors that you need in order for the ship to be successful, the park has never really generated, not even close. Over the ... especially recent years, we look probably 80, 90,000 paid visitors a year, and we need to be 250,000 if this thing’s gonna cash flow," said Bruce Bramlett, the executive director with Battleship Texas Foundation.

Where it’ll end up permanently is still undecided.
