Pretty cool. I hope it goes the reno it deserves, and a new home it deserves. Whats with the squelching radio noise on the youtube feed?

You see 108 year old boats cruising your rivers often?
chartered a 90 year old yacht in Seattle last year

How many 14 inch guns did it have on the main deck?

Living history moving through an engineering marvel. Very, very cool. If I still had my boat down at Seabrook I may have gone down to see this.

it had actually been commandeered by the Coast Guard during WWII for shore patrol and had 50 cals mounted on the bow and stern(since removed)

Does it have a new permanent home? I had read previously that it wasn’t likely to go back to the San Jacinto monument.
As its going to Galveston for repairs, I would think they are the most likely new home. TV reported its between them, Beaumont, and Baytown.

Park her next to the Lex in Corpus. Deserve to grow old together.

Corpus makes the most sense to me. Does Corpus get enough tourist traffic to meet the yearly visitor quota?
Posted on 8/31/22 at 8:59 am to MorbidTheClown
Maybe it will shell city hall.

the Texas has some serious hull corrosion issues, doubt it could make the trip, probably need a pretty protected, relatively shallow place to put her

I can see it next to the Lexington in Corpus. I can also see it at Seawolf Park in Galveston if they made a place for it there.

Doubt that's even a possibility. That things propulsion system has to be beyond obsolete.
Obsolete maybe but back then they made stuff to last. I bet it still runs. I use machines my grandfather bought second hand back in the 40's. They still run like new and are better than new machines.

USS Lexington usually is drawing a large crowd every time I’ve been there plus they have far better amenities closeby along with the Texas State aquarium. Padre Island National seashore has some decent beaches and is an easy drive from CC.

That's a good point. The hull condition was a big worry when they first brought up pulling her out of San Jacinto. Baytown is an industrial area and doesn't seem any better of a location than where it was, except that it's on I-10. Beaumont isn't really a place people stop at unless they need fuel on their way to someplace else.
Galveston makes the most sense if they can find a suitable spot for her.

that's been an issue with that ship my entire life, I guess being static in brackish/salty water isn't great for steel

Headed to Gulf Copper

They can relocate it to Lake Charles. It can replace the Isle of Debris as the boat that breaks loose and slams into the I-10 bridge.
