However, being college EDUCATED does not automatically make you SMART or CAPABLE.

One of my favorite professors once polled the class and asked if we thought it took high levels of intelligence to finish a PhD. Of course nobody wanted to insult him so we all agreed yes and then he busted out laughing and said “no, I had no idea what I wanted to do, I was good at papers, and I was consistent in going to class.” Always appreciated his candid approach and sort of humanized the more douchey professors who were the “you must call me Dr types”.

Credentialism isn't about intelligence, its about systemizing so average people can do the work.

I wanted to be a recycle man when I was 4 years old. I’d watch the truck pick up from the window in the morning. What a sweet gig

The garbage men in NY make around 120k. I seriously considered leaving my corporate data scientist job for one. Not as much stress. When you're done with work, you're really done after taking a shower. They even get a pension.

they're teamsters and have always had a decent compensation package but the CoL just about anywhere close to your job is pretty high

I occasionally rode a garbage truck for a summer making $3.35 an hour. Drivers always had a stack of nudie mags in the cab and knew every address where those mags were in the trash. The truck paid an 8 hour day for 5 hours of work, but it was a tough day. It wasn't the traditional cans, it was those giant paperbags like you see at the beach. Grabbing and tossing those would bloody your knuckles and wear you out.

Yep, anywhere garbage truck drivers are making 100k you'll find an arm twisting union that gets kickbacks.

Closest I've come is hauling hay for .05 cents a bale split two ways.

Great way to stay in shape as a teen though.

Sounds like a win for those college educated peeps.

Until they whine about paying back loans they agreed to pay.

Tough shite.

Where the problem is with people that work retail, fast food, convenience stores thinking they should make $20 hour.

Just curious, why is this a problem? Do you not use and want to keep using those services? Who is supposed to do those jobs? There aren’t enough teens willing to fill those roles and frankly they can’t during the daytime. So who do you expect to stock your shelves, make your food or ring up your transaction? 20 an hour does seem a little high, but not that much given the cost of everything.

$20 as a baseline wage will put most of them out of work, and make it too expensive for them to afford poor people stuff.

"Do gooders" harm more poor people than the rest of us.

It’s possibly useless if you do the online program at some random college.

It’s not useless if you go to Harvard Business School.

Couldn't tell ya. I've never met an MBA who went to Harvard.

The MBA from some random college is pretty useful though if you use it to sit for the CPA exam.

True, but if you bump all unskilled labor (drivers can be skilled) then we have price shocks and unemployment.

I think the garbage outfit here hires out of the halfway houses.

I barely learned anything novel in my MBA program and it was a pretty good one. It was to give you reps with case studies, get exposure to different career verticals, and most importantly - networking. It was largely pass/fail for the most part. Really not a tough academic onslaught.
