Don Fox with Beaver Productions retired, LiveNation got rid of its regional HQs in New Orleans and then terminated Russell Doussan. And then Mitch added the music tax to formally kill it off.
Exactly, now we're left with Live Nation who also owns Ticketmaster, and AEG, all of which has monopolized the entertainment industry.

The House of Blues and one eyed Jack's in New orleans are 2 of my favorite venues ever.
That House of Blues setup is great

BR was a major stop for rock acts, thanks to LSU. Not only for superstars, but legendary bands such as The MC5 and The New York Dolls played there.
Because of rap making such huge inroads in the rock market in the last 25 years the overall potential audience for rock acts has decreased considerably. Add to this that mid-level touring acts have always had the most difficulty finding suitable venues (unknowns play whatever shithole they can get; superstars play the top of the line places).
During the golden age BR got national acts thanks to LSU and the 5% entertainment tax in NO ("to pay for welfare", according to a concert promoter who spoke to my class at LSU 30 years ago); some acts would even play the MS Gulf Coast to avoid the latter. Can anyone tell me if this tax is still in place? I've asked several times on here but have never gotten an answer.

Since Tiger Stadium started hosting concerts in 2010 every big named country artist has played in Baton Rouge at least once. Plus a big Taylor Swift concert.

You must just be pissed Guns N Roses skipped MSY when they released tour dates yesterday.
I don't know why this would be a surprise, Houston, Dallas, and Atlanta metro areas vs New Orleans/BR? Far larger audiences that are going to fill arenas. I know Toby Keith could sell out whatever Ford arena is near Beaumont, but that's a different audience than what you get in New Orleans.

When did you find out there was no concert?

BION -- I swear this is true -- college kids used to listen to R&R. There is even a joke in Spinal Tap when the manager mistakenly fails to schedule Boston on the tour: "No big deal. Boston's not a college town".
In the '70s BR definitely got more and bigger R&R acts than say, Jackson MS, which has never been a college town.

LS was hitting their stride and really going big time in the US, that tour was supposed to wind up in MSG, iirc, sort of showcasing that they'd "arrived" in the US, for whatever reason they were more popular in Europe before they were at home

Pre-fame Prince played a gig at the Warehouse in nothing but tighty whiteys and hair down to his waist.

Wow that’s a strong line up! I would also like to see Corb Lund play a live show. Found him through HC.

My first ever concert was John Cougar Mellencamp at, i believe, the Centroplex in early 1986.. was still using Cougar on all the promotional materials .. was a fantastic show, and i remember he told a particularly good story about his song Ain’t Even Done with the Night, which is still one of my favorites by him .
