I read his autobiography titled, "I is J Edgar Hoover" and he never brought it up.
But I guess anything is possible.
Do you think people back then would have had more of an issue with the most powerful man in law enforcement being a flaming homosexual or a black guy?

Fun Fact:
My Aunt (no pics) worked for the FBI from ‘41 to ‘80, all in the Washington HQ.
She’s only 97 years old now.
She knew Hoover pretty well, answered directly to him for a while.
He was always nice to her.

Warren G. Harding
Most would probably say he was alluding to Carter, but my guess would be Nixon

It's not as common outside of Louisiana though
quote:
Melungeon is a term traditionally applied to one of numerous "tri-racial isolate" groups of the Southeastern United States. Historically, Melungeons were associated with the Cumberland Gap area of central Appalachia, which includes portions of East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, and eastern Kentucky. Tri-racial describes populations thought to be of mixed European, African and Native American ancestry. Although there is no consensus on how many such groups exist, estimates range as high as 200.[1][2] Melungeons were often referred to by other settlers as "Turks", "Moors" or "Portuguese" on account of their swarthier complexion.
According to the Tennessee Encyclopedia of History and Culture, in his 1950 dissertation, cultural geographer Edward Price proposed that Melungeons were families descended from free people of color (who were likely of both European and African ancestry) and mixed-race unions between persons of African ancestry and Native Americans in colonial Virginia,[3] whose territory included the modern-day states of Kentucky and West Virginia.

I'm talking about hundreds of years ago. I think it is. I don't know any other culture in the South that race mixed like the Cajuns/Creoles did.
