Of course you can't really blame him for the British breaking the Enigma code so early on.

Don't think he was a party member.
Good soldier on the wrong side.

Rommel's superiors didn't consider him a great general. He micromanaged his subordinates and got swamped with details. They kept him out of the big leagues on the Eastern Front, even when Hitler was sacking generals. During the greatest tank battle in history at Kursk, Rommel was commanding Army Group E in Greece, defending against a hypothetical British amphibious invasion.

Great tactician, and he did treat prisoners and civilians humanely. But he wasn't a big picture kind of guy.

I think Bob Newhart did a stand-up segment (his conversational style) about Von Braun. Hilarious.

Rommel wasn't a Nazi. He was a German general. Plain and simple.

He wasn't a Nazi. He was a great Field Marshall and a great man. I'd not rank him as the top German officer of the war but he's among them. I will say this about him, if he'd have been able to deploy the German Panzer formations in Normandy on D-Day the way he wanted, there's a good chance Operation Overlord would have failed.

Well that depends on how you define "greatest" : best at being a nazi, or person identified as being nazi that was actually a good person

No. The greatest Nazi was Heinrich Himmler.

What would a 'great' Nazi be?

'Great' by the standards of the Nazis, or great by the standard of non-Nazis?

Rommel was a great representative of the German army in that era, regardless of which way the question is interpreted.

Personally....I kinda like this Nazi.

Rommel was no Nazi...as it was said before..he was a soldier. He obeyed his commanders. He was a hell of a tactician. His tactics laid the ground work for what the coalition used in Desert Storm.

He was just on the wrong side of the war.

I have no idea how he couldn't beat the Brits who were running around north africa in their little rolled up hot pants

Rommel almost a mutiny on his hands after the first attacks on Tobruk. His staff officers were pretty much telling him to get fricked wen he ordered continuous frontal attacks that were very unsuccessful.
