I don't know if you just don't know how to use the quote function but I never said that.

I wasn't agreeing with his moron comment. Rather agreeing with him not coming close to other atheist before his time.
Hitchens responded to primarily Evangelical Christians who have no understanding of philosophy, and say crazy things like the earth is 6000 years old.
When Hitchens goes up against guys who actually know philosophy his weakness is exposed. Hitchens was a brilliant scientist but his understanding of philosophy is poor.
The best example of this is the typical new atheist argument of who created God. If you actually understand who we say God is you would understand that is an absurd question.

He was a man who spent his life obsessed with spewing hatred for religions. He was so consumed with his hate for religion that he considered Marxism to be a apex of socioeconomic theory because it incorporated secularism; and he loved Vlad Lenin because he established secular socialism. Atheist love Hitchens for these reasons, apparently.

Yet he spent some of the last weeks of his life on a road trip with his good Evangelical friend Larry Taunton LINK

Ok so that's two lies in two sentences now. He renounced Marxism a good 30 years before he died.

Go ahead and find a link for this third lie please. He was a fan of Trotsky (which is fair game for criticism). Not sure if that's what you meant, or if you even know who Leon Trotsky was, or if you think Leon Trotsky and Lenin were the same person, but you are hilariously out of your league here. Aside from Trotsky, his biggest Socialist influence was Rosa Luxemburg, who was an outspoken critic of Lenin.

Speaking of which, the altar boy mysteriously disappeared after I asked him why his hero the Archbishop of Canterbury endorsed Sharia Law in the United Kingdom. I guess he couldn't handle the truth and is masturbating to Boondock Saints instead.

I'm surprised your parents haven't revoked your internet privileges yet internet tough guy. Have you made an argument yet that couldn't be recreated by a chimpanzee and a keyboard? You're doing a great service to the Christian element of this board
Seriously, how insecure are you in your faith?

I'm not going to pretend like his support for Trotsky was anything but misguided. Hitchens' iconoclastic nature and hostility to religion led him to take some stances I disagree with. Trotsky is probably the worst example of it. I don't have to agree with some of his beliefs to enjoy his writings on other subjects. At the same time, implying he was some cheerleader for Lenin is wrong.
Edit: Here's a really thorough piece he wrote on Trotsky that's well worth a (long) read. He definitely romanticizes Trotsky but makes valid points about Trotsky's prescience towards totalitarianism to come. The sheer scope of his knowledge on the subject is incredible, although some people might find all the references tedious. LINK

He was a conservative atheist which confuses a lot of people because they assume conservatives are all religious nuts and atheists are all libtards.

To answer the question, yes.
Doesn't mean he wasn't wrong time to time.

As evident from certain posters who resort to infantalism when confronted with that fact
Also, if everyone saying 'No' to OP's question could name someone else, that would be great. Not to say that Hitchens is the answer, but I want to hear some alternatives for discussion's sake.

For me Hitchens was smart but to call him the most enlightened,am is a stretch. He isn't even that we'll versed in philosophy which he is doing when he argues with Christians.
A basic philosophical definition of God is that he always exists and is necessary. The fact that he asks who created God, shows his lack of grasp of some basic philosophical concepts.
Hitchens is a smart widely recognized scientist who used only gotcha arguments that don't come close to addressing real philosophical arguments for God.
He may be the most influential person in recent history, but he is far from the most enlightened.
