No personal experience but I’ve read “they’re the worst”.

Put it this way — crap is crap. If it’s good coverage at a “decent” rate, just be prepared should you need to fight for yourself if you need to file a claim.

The problem with a lot of insurance companies now is that they want all of your trees cutdown and other things changed in homes or will cancel you.

When my wife's brother died and she inherited her mother's home in NOLA (2br/1ba but whole ground floor an art studio) he had allowed the insurance to lapse. The only company we could find was one based at Llyod's of London. Oh, it had original gas piping for interior gas lighting still installed but disconnected, along with knob and tube wiring.

Yes, yes they were. Same applies to 2005, as well.

Allstate sucks. I had my first experience with them after Katrina. A friend of a friend wanted me to review their estimates for wind and flood which were both handled by Allstate. The home had flooded but the waterline was well below 4' and all of the shingles on the roof were blown off. Instead of paying for the 4' and below damage under flood and the damages above 4' under wind, they paid for all interior damages under flood exhausting those limits and just paid for for the roof under the Homeowners policy. So basically they put the majority of damages under the flood policy which is backed by the Federal government and they kept their money. The homeowner was then limited to the flood policy limits and if it wasn't for the Road Home program would've been f*cked. I then saw this happen on several more properties like the adjusters were instructed to do this. It's a garbage company.

Yea - they were shitty. They did everything they could to avoid roof replacements when it was clear that an entire roof needed to be replaced. It took 2 independent adjusters plus their own adjuster coming out before they would agree to replace ours.

allstate gave me a quote that was 40% less than my current homeowners rate. when i called my current company to see if they could match before i switched, they asked me what allstate had quoted me on roof insurance....i was under the impression that it was comparable to what i currently had. she then told me to call allstate again and get clarification.

allstate doesnt cover roofs older than 5 years at 100% and it depreciates every year after 5 years. (the woman at allstate left this part out in the original discussion) my roof is somewhere around 18 years old which if i remember right would have only been covered around 35-ish %

also they were only going to write a policy for me if i bundled with car insurance as well.

Homeowners insurance is not nearly as profitable as Auto, that's why they want the bundle. Something to keep in mind when your shopping around especially if you have multiple vehicles...they want your Auto policy

i agree and the auto insurance was about $800 more annually for me. What she said was "we mitigate our risk of home insurance by having home and auto bundled" ...something along those lines. said her boss wouldn't let her write a home owners without the auto bundle.

there was also another round about way that she got the policy lower, but i dont have the printed copy anymore because they dont send PDF attachments anymore. it was sent through their portal so the quote just gets auto deleted after so many days.
