Your mom doesn't sound too bright.
No need to be a dick.
Old people come from a generation where they just weren't conditioned to recognize so many scams. I see it with my maternal grandparents who are both in their 80s. They have a hard time believing that that so many people in different ways try to scam. Myself and other family members have talked with them at length about ignoring anyone asking for money.
I was visiting one time when someone "from microsoft" called my grandmother. She didn't know what the arab sounding guy was talking about so she handed me the phone. Guy from "microsoft" wanted me to "update" their computer and I played along just out of curiosity. I stopped when we got to the part where he wanted me to let access the computer remotely. Told him I'd call Microsoft and make sure this needed to be done. He sounded pretty distraught
After I googled the scam several examples of it popped up. Some people, more quick-witted than me, detailed their tortuous conversations with the scammers. The best was one guy pretended to be a clueless old person dragging out the instructions forever and finally at the end told the scammer he actually had a Mac and not a Pc. Scammer actually had the nerve to accuse the guy of wasting his time.

Another one is that I been getting calls on my cell from way out of state.
Thanks to people like this, I'm going to have to change my phone number. No one answers my call the first time because I have a Texas phone number. Very annoying.

Anyone ever gotten one from a warranty department for a car they don't even own? Those are my favorite
Yep. But when I press 1 to talk to them, there's never a rep available. I need to get a new warranty on my 1963 Pontiac Tempest.

Yep. I always jerk them around. Main reason is to run interference and keep them away from real victims.

It's black people from Africa, or Muslims.
Or black people that are Muslim.
Or Indian people.

Anyone transferring money via blind craigslist deals in this day and age deserves to get scammed

My wife found out that her aunt was falling for this crap. By the time my wife took over her finances, she had given away at least 300K. That was what my wife was able to track down. Jamaican scammers. She had to turn the case over to The Secret Service because of possible money laundering. These people have no heart.

What did she think she was giving over 300k to?

Few years ago, my mom now 92 yrs old, who has subscribed to TV guide since the 1950's' got a call. Knew nothing of this subject, so one day she calls me to tell me she had a call, not from the normal outfit she subscribed through (Veterans org), telling her that she could no longer get a 1 yr subscription but would have to purchase a 5 yr. Naturally the offer was only good for 1 week. She bit and subscribed before calling me.
Luckily she had their call back number (San Antonio) so I called and asked WTF was this about. Oh, I forgot the credit card charge was $285. The bitch on the other end said everything was explained to my mother and that she agreed. I asked her a couple of questions relative to cancelling and crediting to which she finally succumbed. I called her the lowest form of human existence that would take advantage of an 89 yr old WWII veterans widow. She insisted she had explained everything carefully, but did admit lying that the 1 yr subscription is still available.
By this time, I was pissed, but I can't share what I said in my salutation. It had to do with a dog penis. There are some real POS's that do telephone solicitations.

Yup. And Google wallet is the new Western Union/Money Pak cards for Craigslist scammers. So much ignorance out there and these scammers make a killing.
