I am working on a project called "Joe's War Record". It's a WWII screenplay and I wanted to share my day yesterday. October 21, 2023... The date is kind of important and you'll see why.

ANyways... Short and sweet....

Yesterday I rode this.

to ride in this.

Too bad Chicken won;t let folks upload or embed videos... But alas... Turn the sound up anyway...

For some reason I was given the best seat in the house. If you click this link you sill see a 0;30 video of the cockpit and pilots from my seat... after :10 seconds I zoom in and you can see the runway in the windows for a great shot... I wish I had not stopped filming.

Cockpit

Here is a view from a side viewing Window.

Side Window

It was a complete Blast...

Now the week before I was here and got this.

Paratroopers

And here is an image that I am trying to capture via video.. Not bad for impromptu unprepared.

Now.. why is the date important... We it seems somebody was there selling WWII stuff at the airport and I bought this.

"What's so special about that?" you say.
Well... maybe this will answer that question.

and it is all because I am trying to do this. Sell a screenplay to Hollywood.

Thanks All.. Please, comments are welcome. Let me know if anyone has troubles with the Video links...

Fun fact the MP40 commonly known as the Schmeisser was not made by Schmeisser just the magazine was. Most of them were made by Steyr-Mannlicher,Erma Werke, and Haenel.

Very cool experience with the C-47 ride.

Does your screenplay erase actual, real life World War II soldiers and replace them with gender fluid heroes, brave homosexuals and black men who hold everything together through the chaos while also being extra devoted fathers?

Because if not, I have some bad news for you re: Hollywood...

I admire the dedication you show to the subject. It amazes me to see how you grab onto an item, research it to great depths, and show it's importance.

I wish you good fortune on the Hollywood angle.

Three questions for you. Have you written anything of length before?
How did you get so interested in WWII?
W hat is your age?

Again, good luck.

Thank You.

How did you get so interested in WWII?

I don't know. I have been this way all my life. I was born just 19 years after WWII... I remember the vets.. Surplus stores still had tons of this old equipment.

When I was a Teenager I bought my first item. A german helmet out of Shotgun news.. $35.

But now I am finding that researching items is bringing a satisfaction in itself... It is somehow actually putting me in connection with the people it seems. One thing is leading to another etc. My museum is taking on specific directions now.

But I really can;t explain it. I have just been this way all my life. When I retire, I will do some serious researching. I am trying to catalog, and record all these items now. I have 3 ring binders recording each piece and such. ANd I am trying also to keep the Local Stories alive.. Of the local peolpe that were there.

I have a bunch of letters from a Sergeant at Will Rogers Field 42-45... I have not the time to read them yet. But I hope that when I do I will get a better understand of what was happening in OKC and how the people felt here, along with info on the field.

I remember my Grandfather who was 31 when the war began. He got an old Shotgun he said during the War when guns were scarce... Funny I didn;t have to ask what war? I knew it wasn;t Korea or Vietnam... But knew he meant WWII... My grandmother spoke about Hitler once or twice.

What is your age?

59 and a half. lol

Have you written anything of length before?

No, I have not. But I have been working on this for a few years and it just keeps rolling on and getting better. There are writes, and re-writes, added scenes, characters' etc.

I believe my story is plausible, realistic, the time line works and it seems that people are truely interested. I am meeting 2 people tonight to discuss another part of it.

I have been reading books on Screenwriting... It has all the Plot points, Sub plots. ANd I believe it to be a solid story... Do I have a lot to learn... Yes I do..

But I want to say this... I have always been an impatient man.. I want it done and I want it done NOW... But for some reason, this is different.. I am enjoying the journey and the road it is taking me on.

I am starting filming now to build a trailer to sell the screenplay to hollywood. a short 5 or 10 minutes teaser.

Thank you btw.

I'm a splash or 2 older. Had my interest piqued by a book we had in our house, Life Pictorial History of WWII
Big ol' red coffee table kinda thing. Used to flip through it and look stuff up.

Not my business of course, but I would urge you to try and quickly look through them for mentions of people, places, buildings etc, that may still be here... But you know at 'our' age, these things can disappear in a hurry.

Just a suggestion...

The only merch I have are a couple of canteens, cups, mess kits. A few of the old style mess knives with the thicker handle.

Anyway... Take care.
